The wah pedal I am after is too hard to find. It is the 70's style Morley that I would ideally like to have but they seem a bit rare. As a second best option I was thinking of the Jim Dunlop 535Q which has a few flexibility additions such as changeable Q. I think this is about as good as I can get but was wondering if anyone has experience with this model and if so it's strengths and weaknesses.

It's a very good wah, infinitely better than the standard crybaby, which is rubbish I think.

I don't know enough about other wahs to really compare it though

I use a Vox.
It has a bit more bite to it than the dunlops IMHO

my 2 cents..

I haven't noticed any difference between the older Morleys and the current PowerWah, to be honest. The only thing you're giving up is the onboard power supply the old ones had, which is a good thing to give up- I don't know how many times I had to resolder my power cord with the old ones....

A spectral heretic...

Im a strict Morley user more for the construction set up than anything. Seems like i have much more control of the pot. I cant stand dunlops and the vox asthetics in this regard.

I'm not sure what it is really. I know I loved the old one I had and this new one doesn't do it for me. I don't like the action or the range it has. I do have reserves about the Dunlops though because I had one in the past and I don't remember liking the action on it.

I bought a Dunlop Crybaby Classic a few years ago and love it. It's got the airy-hairy sound of the vintage pedals (due to the revival of the Fasel inductor, rather than using the capacitor based circiut used in most modern designs.) Costs something like $50 more than the standard Crybaby.

But if you're a Morley fan that may not do it for you. Crybaby pedal has a very short range of movement... uses a pot instead of Morley's noiseless optical curtain system (although you'll never need to replace a light bulb in the Crybaby...but on the other hand I need to wiggle my Crybaby's pedal for a couple of minutes before all the static electricity crackle leaves the pot)... and Morleys had a somewhat different character to the sound.

My favourite wah sounds are varied I guess. I love Slash and Hendrix. There is a new Slash Crybaby which led me to believe that I may like the sound. So I figured the 535Q would be a safe option with all the different possibilities. So I am not necessarily a Morley fan, I just loved the only one I have used. I'm not even sure who uses Morley that I m ight like. I know I saw Slash using one to record Mr Brownstone which is a personal favourite, but now he endorses JD so

The Crybaby Classic sounds very Hendrix to me. Though I believe he used a Vox.

They make reissue Voxes too. With Fasel inductors even. But haven't tried them.

It gets hard to decide when there are so many. And JD release Slash and Hendrix models which give the impression that is what they use. But in reality it could be anything on their recordings. I'm sure the Crybaby will have something to offer. They are pretty popular after all.

Yeah, I avoid those custom famous-name models. Jimi Hendrix didn't have a pedal with the name Jimi Hendrix any more than Spider-Man had a costume with "The Amazing Spider-Man" and a picture of himself on the front of his chest (like a certain plastic Halloween costume I was forced to wear when I was 5! :x )

If you want to sound like Jimi Hendrix, after you've found a Wah, find a used http://www.foxroxelectronics.com/CC2%20End.html I've never used one, but I believe the hype. Soooooooooooo sad to hear that product has been discontinued... it's a Fuzzface clone, an Octavia clone, and a Univibe clone all in one box!

You think you have problems. I got dressed up as the Fonz at about the same age. And I'm a redhead. :nutter:

Thanks for the link. Very interesting. I have a pretty cool Mosfet Classic and Blue Classic from http://clinchfx.com/. Some cool pedals in development as well I hear.

I had a Fonz T-shirt that said "Ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy" on the front and "Sit on it" on the back. Though I was in grade 3 by that time.

(Oh and I'm a redhead too. :hihi: Or at least was. )

Thanks for the info bloodnut. A redhead Fonz can only invoke mockery in school, which is where it happened. Only a few more years of therapy.
