Cannot in-line lengthen a multi sample audio clip (when sample is added in audio editor) greater than the length of the first sample in the clip! But XT plays all material in clip even though not shown. XT is really only resizing the first sample and always playing the whole other sample.

This one is big enough I thought it needed its own thread

hi, i just want to add to this. if you drop samples onto an audio track and split them to get a series of hits then rearrange them on another track, select them all then right click glue they arent really glued together because if you double click the new glued clip you can slide the hits about and if you right click on a hit it deletes it but you can right click and select undo but i would have thought glue was permenent, if you see what i mean
[actually it could have advantages as it is though being able to rearrange it again or swap hits}

Me I only see advantages and no disadvantages at all.1barEnuff wrote:[actually it could have advantages as it is though being able to rearrange it again or swap hits}
It's great and it's no bug and it's by design.
See the samples contained within an audio-part as events like the notes in a MIDI-part.
If you glue 2 MIDI-parts, you still can move the notes, can't you.
Same applies to audio-parts.
If you glue them, you still can move the samples within them.
Since a part is the unit that can be saved as an EXT2-clip, glueing 2 or more parts is just what you need to do to save your creation as clip.
Hint:
If you really want the samples within a multi-sample audio-part to finally be a single sample (for whatever reason ever), you just can render that part.
Cheers,
Patrik
Sorry for the OT...
Jorgen,
please take a look at what Soma reported.

1bar-
what kirtap said
The glue will glue clips. Don't think of it as making a a new sample out of more than one sample but making a new clip out of many clips.

Soma,
I'm not sure if I understand your original post correctly.
You mean you cannot increase the length of an audio part containing more than one sample to a size that is bigger than the length of it's first sample?
If so, I can't confirm.
I can size multi-sample audio parts as small or as big as I want.
But what I could confirm:
Multi-Sample Audio parts don't stop playing back a sample at the end of a part.
In other words:
Within a multi-sample audio part a started sample plays to it's end regardless of the part size.
Lets say 1st sample is exactly 2 bars, 2nd sample is exactly 2 bars too and starts immediatly after the 1st sample (all in all the length of the 2 samples is 4 bars)
If I size the part to 1 bar: -> the first sample with it's full length of 2 bars will play.
The 2nd sample won't play.
If I size the part to 3 bars: -> the first sample will play back as supposed, but the 2nd sample now will play it's full lenght of 2 bars instead of only 1 bar to complete the 3 bars.
The samples in my 'test-scenario' are both in 'Normal' mode.
Is this what you meant?

steps to recreate:
1. add sample to audio track
2. open clip
3. drag second, longer sample somewhere into open clip view
Bug 1- you cannot make the clip greater than sample 1's length
4. change mode to stretch
Bug 2- if you make clip shorter it will snap to sample 1's length and the part of sample 2 that was longer than sample 1 is not shown in the track clip.
And you spotted the normal mode bug, Patrick

Note: I am getting different results if Glue is used instead of dragging samples into an open clip.

Patrick (or someone), can you reproduce this?soma wrote:steps to recreate:

yup, exactly - it doesn't render - it's completely different action...

@soma:
Finally I had the time to check according to your steps:
Bug 1 -> confirmed!
Bug 2 -> confirmed! (But only at 1st try after change from normal to stretch,
if I then try again to shorten, it 'works'.
And what I found out else:
Audio parts created the way you described just seem not to be 'real' multi-sample audio parts!
Real multi-sample audio parts created by glueing provide the following features which are all missing in the 'multi-sample' audio parts created by dragging samples into the audio editor:
1) You can select single samples and set their mode individually in the editor's object bar.
2) If you select one, it's name is displayed in the editor's obj. bar.
3) The names of the samples are also displayed in the waveform view of the editor (at the top)
4) You cannot set the mode in the part's obj. bar in the sequencer.
Conclusion:
Definitivly a big bug IMO.
Cheers,
Patrik

I get all kinds of problems when I glue parts together.
(first off doing it with glue the clip no longer has a mode, only the samples)
1) Glue 2 1-bar "normal" loops together.
2) Make the first loop normal and the second stretch (or both stretch)
Bug1 - Pull the edge out (longer). The second clip looks like it is getting longer, but when you let go, the clip gets longer but the second sample stays the same. Looking at the audio editor nothing changes
Bug2- shrink the clip to 1.5 bars. The second clip doesn't stretch after you let go. The clip keeps playing the whole second sample. This happens even if both samples are changed to normal

I noticed something else with multi-sample clips.
1) load a 1 bar loop
2) slice in 4 part (length doesn't matter)
3) glue them together to make a multi-sample clips
4) change the pitch of each sample to anything else than 0.
everything plays fine but if you look at the pitch of each sample afterward, they are all at 0 even though they play at the altered pitch.
