Ambient/Cinematic Drum Loops?

Hey guys...I've been searching for drum loops with an ambient/cinematic/downtempo sound, but haven't really come across anything. Slow, distant, foggy loops that you would hear on TV and movie soundtracks. If anyone knows where I could find a collection of loops in that style, please let me know! Thanks!

Stormdrum has the loops and the samples to make your own. It's getting cheaper now too. I've seen it arround $185 before.

I have Stormdrum...even using filters and reverbs it still has that 'in your face' kinda sound.

Yes, I purchased that about 2 months ago...a really nice library, but the rhythm loops that come with it are mostly filtered high-hat patterns.

Stylus RMX is the best thing I can think of. Frankly if that, AIR, and Stormdrum aren't enough for you... you probably won't find anything better and should concentrate on sequencing and/or processing your own loops. Alternatively, you might invest in something like PSP Nitro or Filterscape, and then use them to mess up any old breakbeat loop.

We have something in the pipeline from dBu. Should be released this month or early next.

Joseph, email me and we can work something out.

Drumloops, wouldn't one just get a soft drum beat hapening and apply a resonant band/highpass filter and some reverb and a bit of bitcrusher and/or (reverse) delay?

That's how I look at it, cause it works with everything to get the downtempo+calmish feel in background music.

Anyway, sample packs, probably give the Sony loop packs a try:

Rapoon
Liquid Planet
Cyclotronic Resonator
Rads Drum Components

And yes I am aware they are old.

Thanks for all the replies guys....yes, I can sequence and create loops on my own...but it is extremely time consuming. To get really good textures, you have to process each individual drum hit sound seperately and extensively, before you can even begin to start creating patterns. Well, if I have to go that route, I will do so....maybe if I have to put all that work into it, perhaps I will release it as a sample set for others to use. And John, I'll send you an email.

Hi vespers75

I've made one loop library, the kind you're looking after I think, and I'll be happy to have your feedback.
here is the link to some audio files and some explanations :

Now I do like the sound of those demos....run through a little more reverb and this could be just what I was searching for. However, I downloaded the demo but there wasn't anything in plain old .wav format. I'm not a mac user. Also, does one have to purchase the magazine to get these samples?

thanks !

As the loops are already full of effects, I'm glad to hear that you wish and could add a little more ;-)
there wasn't anything in plain old .wav format.
Can't you use AIFF ?
Maybe do I have to make it in wav rather...
OK, that's what I'll do ;)

If you're patient, the new zip with wav instead of AIFF will be posted in a little hour...
Also, does one have to purchase the magazine to get these samples?
No, and I doubt the magazine's editor still have this issue (the mag doesn't exist anymore, at last under its name). And there's only wav and Rex format in it...

But I'm the only owner of this library, and I'm trying to make it published by an editor. Can't tell now if it will be, but I keep you informed ;)

Hi vespers75

as I know you're a SampleTank user, you maybe want to check this "Elephant" piece (in the Demo's Corner part of my site...)
All the programming is done with ST2XL, in Logic, while I was reviewing it, long time ago :).
Combi was this one : Room, Snares & Not Jessica for drums, 2 Tonys and 2 Legato Stick for stick, Swirly Gtr for RF's guitar, 2 Chorus Gritty Clean & 1 Stereo Clean STR for AB's guitar...
