Actually it's well documented that just about every E6300 clocks extremely well if you have the right motherboard. If it clocks well...great do it...if it doesn't ...oh well...what have you lost? Nothing for trying, but a lot to gain.

It would be silly to buy anything less than 800mhz ddr 2 ram these days and the price difference is really not worth going for slower ram. But it will save you having to rebuy ram when you next upgrade. And 800mhz ram and a good motherboard is all you really need to run the cpu at 400mhz fsb

Good answer. I have the E6600. Just getting started.

Antecs true power runs well and stable. as well as some enermaxes, ultras and cooler masters psu's. my system under nornal load needs 440 watts to 500 watts roughly. The cpu i have is a 650 antec true power to compensate for the overclock. The better the psu the easier it is for it to provide power during an overclock. The psu will also run closer or be able to exceeds its rating for short spikes. You also need verry stable positive and negative rails.
Thanks Atomikk Squirrel. I asked because recently the 237W PSU in my Mac G4 burned out at the connection to the motherboard; the mylar sheathing for 3 pins melted, all associated with red wires. It was running a dual 1.4 GHz CPU upgrade purchased from Gigadesigns. What I'm trying to figure out is if it was the PSU which failed on its own, or if the CPU upgrade taxed the PSU to death. I shut down the computer as soon as I smelled the burning, so it seems that the CPU upgrade is still fine, but what I don't know is if the motherboard PSU connecter is toasted for good; indeed, a new motherboard might be required. Any solution, new motherboard, new PSU, or both, including taking it in for repairs or professional diagnostics exceeds the current value of the computer itself. Though the CPU upgrade and the RME Hammerfall audio card are still desirable and have retained at least 50% of their original value. So I've been looking to replace the entire computer with the exact model; probably will cost $150-$200. Bought this thing back in 2000 for $3000. Gotta love technology. Anyway, thanks for answering.

Oh, I forgot to add that the Gigadesigns dual 1.4GHz unit has two Gigadesigns overclocked PPC 7455 1.2GHz processors.

Reccomend to me something obscure by Sartre. I've only read the biggies (Nausea, No Exit, Being & Nothingness)

Well, I wouldn't say that I'm well read on Sartre, but I am aware of the thinking behind many of his most famous quotes, like the one you, erm, paraphrased -- which, either your rewrite or the orginal, "Hell is other people", is good for a signature here on KVR!

In Eric Rohmer's film Claire's Knee, a film I can watch over and over, I noticed how Rohmer explored Sartre's "bad faith" concept. Also, in another thread I mentioned that I love the quote I reference because it helps me to remember that I can consciously avoid the dictates of my habits and the conditions that seem set before me by other people.

I'll let you know when I've finished the book. Both of them. ;)

Just for the sake of clarity, many existentialist ideas were introduced to me through the writings and recorded lectures of Robert Anton Wilson.

Paraphrase is right. I read "No Exit" in college and it really stuck. Robet Anton Wilson. Hmm - someone new (to me) to check out. Thanks.

I would say you need a new motherboard. If it melted the connector its more then likely damaged and you risk frying the cpu's and the new psu. It sounds like the psu was pushing too much voltage down the power rails to the mb. Im not a mac user so i cant say for certain what the g4 runs on voltage wise. Yea i love spending the price of a used car on a computer just to have it be worth a tonka truck within a year :) such is life.

You could do a mixdown of tracks with intensive CPU load every once in a while (and save the previous setup) instead of spending a lot of money in cooling, a lot of time in setting up voltage and frecuencies and risking your CPU. Can't you?
I work with an Athlon 64 at 1.84 GHz and I get along pretty well, some plugins (3 or 4) don't (badly optimized I guess), so what the f**k - I uninstalled them
