DJ mixer would be sweet.
but, could someone explain why there is no Mixer comp like in 1.4? I'm trying to figure out the Groups thing, it just doesn't seem half as intuitive. Am I missing some concept?

The Groups thing its an interesting feature if understood like the groups in a hardware mixer,i. e. Drums, Voices, Keys ... but I also miss the old mixer comp in the comps view, acting like a flow control that not overweights the main one.bengeorge wrote:DJ mixer would be sweet.

And about DJ mixer style comp (or whatever) I'd like the three (or more) busses idea: A, B and pre-listen. As I see it will be necessary when playing live.

And related to this picture I would miss a couple Buzz features, activity led and volume display. Must I say I loved Buzz

If you could map params to extra knobs and sliders on that thing, that would be oh so great...Charlie wrote:Perhaps like this?Diek wrote: ... but I also miss the old mixer comp in the comps view, acting like a flow control that not overweights the main one.

built-in sidechaining would be lovely, and entirely in the spirit of xt, i reckon.
What do you guys say?
Also, i mentioned it before but will do so again in the more appropriate thread:
The option for the track-eq to be a simple dj-eq setup by default. The current one just confuses me, really

I made this one in its own thread before the Great Rationalization, but here it is again: when adding a send to the mixer via drag and drop, it'd be really cool if the output or outputs of the send that's created were the same as the output or outputs of the channel into whose 'sends' box you drag and drop it.
Also, a big +1 to the idea of mini-mixers in the main window, particularly if there was an easy way to flag which tracks you wanted to go to the mini-mixer and whether you still wanted them to appear in the main mixer or just have a slider for the volume of the mini-mixer.
If nothing else, it'd mean you could do nice things like add reverb and stuff to your drums and mix them as a group and then treat the whole sub-mix as a single source in the main window without ending up doing annoying stuff like sticking an effect on the sounds but not on the send returns...

+1 for premade presets for bas, pads, melody, drums and vocal.

Interesting. Kind of like a "group send". Still trying to think about how this would be used, but it sparked my mixing imagination. Off to go try out that routing ...DWb wrote:when adding a send to the mixer via drag and drop, it'd be really cool if the output or outputs of the send that's created were the same as the output or outputs of the channel into whose 'sends' box you drag and drop it.

i'm still not sure if i understand this... i have noticed that sends have invisible wires, in that you can (from the mixer) connect the send's output to any audio input, but the connection doesn't show in the comps window. not sure if that has anything to do with what you're saying though.DWb wrote:when adding a send to the mixer via drag and drop, it'd be really cool if the output or outputs of the send that's created were the same as the output or outputs of the channel into whose 'sends' box you drag and drop it.
perhaps it would be good if sends appeared as comps. i think it would make sense, since they have their own strips in the mixer, like all the other comps.

It's not really crucial, but at the moment if I've got the main window routing set up with something like
and I add a reverb as a send to the synth, I get
so I'd get the dry sound pitch shifted and the reverb at the original pitch, which would sound a little strange.
Altering it so that the reverb by default goes to the pitch shifter too would make the workflow a bit nicer by removing a bit of unneccessary thinking and clicking, and doesn't seem like a big fundamental alteration that would take forever to implement.
Code: Select all
synth -> pitch shifter -> outputCode: Select all
synth - pitch shifter - output
\ /
--reverb ---

Well, I previously made an FR for send returns to appear in the main window, but noone else seemed bothered...insertpizhere wrote: perhaps it would be good if sends appeared as comps. i think it would make sense, since they have their own strips in the mixer, like all the other comps.

Maybe better to have volume on connections than have sends show up in the comps view. This will separate the modular stuff from the mixer stuff nicely and you can choose one or the other way (or both) that suits your needs.
unfortunately, nobody want levels on audio cables.
cheers
