Apart from the 909, what other kicks are most commonly used in Electro House? What are some of the drum machines/plug-ins producers are using to create their beats?

as for kicks, i prefer to create my own w/ bit of the old analouge synth goodness. kicks and all of those little auxillary electro percussion sounds that make a track rock.

from there, i resample them and program them with GURU.

but thats just me.

and as far as i know, nobody uses kick drums from the TR-505. but i could be wrong...

when you say, "electro house" what exactly do you mean? i've heard of "electro clash" and then i know what electro is and house is. but i don't know what electro house refers to. f**k... i hate labels.

Electro House is a whole genre of dance that combines the old school Electro with Synth Pop and house. It's been huge for the last couple of years. In fact it's been around far longer than that, sans label.

I am familiar with the Roland XOX series as well as the Linn and DMX, Microtonic and Drumazon. However, these are not quite the kicks I hear in Electro music. I can of course, tweak Microtonic to get something similar, but I just wanted to know if there was an 'industry standard' set of drum sounds used by Electro House producers or a combination of techniques. Perhaps it is just clever EQing, compression and layering.

Modern Electro House barely uses these drum machines. One of the most vibrant things about the genre is the freshness of the drum sounds. While old school Electro (a form of early hip hop) did use these XOX beatboxes, Electro House itself does not. I am basically looking for techniques, plug-ins etc. that are being used in the genre. The 909 answer is too easy.

The answer is simple: Layering. Layer samples with samples and synthetic ones (fm-drums, love 'em) and noises and clicks. Construct by volume, samplestart point adjust, envelope, pitch.. be creative.
Best snares are done with at least four samples

And yes, 505 bassdrum has been used frequently, but layered.
