My idea for a midi sampler. I actually posted it a while back.disturb wrote:holy crap, wtf is this thing ?
Imagine something like Kontakt, but instead of audio, it deals just with midi.
If it existed, it would take a midi input and depending on the keyzone it would either trigger new midi sequences and/or add midifx to the input.
The pink bits are midifx mapped to the keyzone. Midi notes coming through this would have midifx applied to them. The blue bits are midi files which are triggered. The pink and blue keyzones could overlap to create madness.
IMHO it would be great!

AHAH you bastard, that was a mockup !

I've been looking for something like this for ages.
That's definitely the kind of stuff we'd be able to do with some kind of scripting in eXT *WINK*
In the meantime, there max, pd, reaktor etc, i need to get into that...

you can trigger sequences (with midi effects including a transposer or whatever) via midi notes on an xt1 sequencer set to "live" (sorry too lazy for picts)
Plus you can use that to trigger arps or midi comps, etc.

+1 for De la mancha strummer /chopper in the midieditor , but i would add some more options
like chord mirror/inverser.
My requests for the midieditor are as follows
-when selecting a note in the editor then by holding a keyboard combi like Ctrl+q and then
like it's now clicking the note with left mouse to select it 'deletes all equal notes (equal means same note value as the one selected)in the pattern , Ctrl+q and right click the note
'deletes all UNequal notes' in the pattern.
-further crucial workflow (since EXt is used alot as a vsti like for instance tracktion) is drag and drop a midiclip from extVsti (loaded in tracktion) onto a tracktion track without this tedious saving midifile first to directory and then importing it to tracktion.

-I have always really needed a shift pattern function.
For instance, I record a pattern but (I suck and) the first beat of my pattern I decide starts on beat 2 of the recording. I want to be able to shift the pattern so that all the notes (and CC's) that go past the pattern, warp around to the other side. I need this for drums and audio as much as midi.

HI
Being able to zoom verically in the piano-roll would be nice.
Flipper.

de la mancha and disturb's ideas are what many of us have been talking about for a long time. well stated, guys.
++++1
the guy with the midi sampler: i don't understand it really, but it seems like a cool idea from what i can wrap my head around.
midi is the great uncharted frontier of VST development. there is STILL no really good arp VST that is stable and easy/fun to use.

I'll second that. I still haven't found one impressive Arp VST.
groove fx, loading a midi part and an intergrated force2key plug are a must.
plus, you should be able to render it all to a new midi part.
a "midi sampler" similar to the one described above is my dream comp: you can do most, if not all of the mentioned stuff with XT1 and NicFit's and Soma's plugs; but there can be a much more elegant way to do it, especially when it's all inside one "midi sampler" comp and interacts with host itself.
the "random/notes" function in XT1's composer was pretty useful too: I hope it gets intergrated and expanded in XT2. I was able to create drum breaks or variations of melodies in a second.
+1
for custom, non-linear CC maps.

Independence can do both, MIDI and audio:Charlie wrote:Imagine something like Kontakt, but instead of audio, it deals just with midi.

You can drop a MIDI file like you would for audio.
The MIDI can then trigger samples from the current patch or another synth.
