perhaps this is of marginal interest(?) but i enjoy the internet auctions very much. i basically buy stuff listed as "junk" (which in japan can often mean there's some scratches) and then 'do it up'. these two items were my latest projects, a couple of 60s trash guitars at approx 2000yen, about $20, a piece:

the tremolo unit's still waiting some work - i need to find an arm for it that goes with the kitchen utensil styling of those pick-ups!

those are the 'after' pictures, perhaps i should post some showing their state prior to my work - i refretted both guitars and overhauled the electronics so they're both buzz and noise free, and gave them a paint job - previously they had bog standard sunbursts that due to age and neglect had come to resemble something more akin to photochemical smogs. the Guyatone is for me a decent, playable instrument, the Zenon more of a functional wall hanging. my next project is a fender mustang rip-off.

thanks for letting me 'show and tell'

EDIT: i've added some before pics - taken from the original auctions - they give an idea of the condition prior to my efforts (note the missing frets on the guyatone).

regards

before photos added above.

I like the "ice cream" colors better too. They'd look great with a few Danelectro stompboxes. =^_^=

Nice work indeed

Very nice. The blue one would do nicely with a blue headstock.

So by junk, these were really just grubby looking, or did you have to perform some mojo on the moving parts, too?

Post

thanks. they were remarkably grubby but also non-functional; the most dramatic work for me was re-fretting them, other than that i stripped down and dismantled everything, i replaced one or two components, reset everything. not sure if that constitutes mojo? but i was enjoying myself.

Thanks for sharing.
Are you familiar with David Lindley's late '70s period ?
He would certainly enjoy this thread and your pretty but exotic babies.
