LOST supersonic fence sound

Any ideas on how the sound of the supersonic fence in LOST was created? The sound designers briefly mentioned on a podcast that the starting point for the sound was a tuba. It's a really killer sound, and it would be fun to experiment with ways of turning it into a bass sound that could be used in a musical context. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

yay.
sounds like a big fat tubaish noise to me. just twisted and stretched. they did a good job of creating that electrical buzz
also amazing sound (in the cinema)
star wars seismic charge. similar vein but obviously a bomb.
