Nice job on the keys Squids.

Thanks for making it available to us.

Free is nice isn't it? (Now how we're going to recoup rather large expenses is another question! haha)

I am glad you like it.

Thanks

Warning, SETLIST-SPOILER:

Just got back from Helsinki. What a show!! The stage was massive and the setlist great (perhaps a few too many new songs though...). They started with the "Behind the Lines"-part from Dukes Travels/End which morphed into Turn It On Again. Then No Son Of Mine, Land of Confusion, In the Cage-medley (Slippermen, Cinemashow, Afterglow), Home By The Sea, Follow You Follow Me, Mama, Ripples, Tonight Tonight Tonight, Throwing it all away, Firth of Fifth/I Know What I Like, Carpet Crawlers, Domino, Los Endos, Invisible Touch..... and more.

Downs: Phil's voice really isn't what it used to be. Tony's lead-sounds suck. Why won't he use Squids samples of his old gear instead? Sad....

hah i'm just tuning into all of this now ( a little late aren't we?), but congrats on all these things squids! the track sounds great.

interesting that simon lives in the sunshine coast, BC it says on his myspace. cause i thought vancouver was a bit "detached" from the music biz enough as it was, sunshine coast would be ultimate desolation(which is a good thing to many people of course).

Tony is comfortable with using the sounds he's been using on the past tour. But he's slowly working in the new stuff.

That sounds pretty much like the set list I saw in NY apart from IKWIL which I didn't see. Can't wait to check it out!

Tunes, Simon just lives there because he grew up there. He goes all over the world for music biz stuff.

Hi Dave, and thank you for your feedback again.
So you already knew about those Duke stuff!

From what I heard (Cage medley Helsinki rehearsals), synth lead sounds very good.
Cage synth solo sound has a more electronic approach (it's halfway between symphonic approach of Duke/Abacab/TSL versions and more allucinating from Lamb studio and live).

Cinema Show has a little less substantial sound (than ARP Quadra's one) in the first melodic theme, however the two scales later in the track (the two ones separated by "Riding The Scree" riff) have a very substantial sound with a very good "portamento" effect.

Los Endos synth sounds very good too (Helsinki concert video excerpt).

On the other hand, Firth of Fifth lead synth sound is a bit lackluster (sounds almost exactly the same as on WCD and CAS tours) even though Tony's (and the band's) performance is excellent.

I think all of them are EMU Proteus options (correct Dave?), however no one of the above have the same lead synth sound except Cinema Show and Los Endos which I think have the same sound, with the difference that on Cinema Show the "portamento" effect in the rapid parts is more emphasized.

I will post more in details my impressions after the Bern show which I will attend on Sunday.

thanks for that - it's a great cover - very modern&punchy - somehow it reminds me a lot of Magellan's cover of Mama (you know there are only two brilliant covers on that album ;-)) - it would deserve some airplay - however I have to admit it's partly too much drowned in reverb for my taste...

Fun Fun Fun, thanks Dave :)

Almost everything was done with IK software and Sonic Reality sounds. We used AmpliTube and Jimi Hendrix Edition, Ampeg SVX, CSR, TRackS, SampleTank, Sonik Synth 2, Studiophonik, SampleTron and did part in Logic and part in Cubase.
Amazing production Squids!

Big WoW!

Thanks Bonamici. Has Nad heard it yet? How's it going with your project?

I'm a little behind on everything, so I just caught this. Really nice production! There is a lot of interesting things going on in the layers, but it still has impact. Also, it really has a Genesis-like sound while sounding new and unique. It was a lot of fun!

Thanks David. It was a lot of fun to do. I've always been Tony Banksish in a lot of ways, particularly influenced by his cool sounds, melodies and unique chord changes. Simon, naturally, is influenced heavily by his father and Peter Gabriel (with a few genetic advantages) so it really does feel like a Nuevo-Genesis-Related kind of music project. I mean, it did a little bit with Kevin Gilbert too with him having Gabriel influences but... this is even closer to that sort of edgy, intense but emotional music that I've always liked from them. Wait until you guys hear Simon's album!!!! We got Steve Hackett to play on one track and he sounds phenominal. I played some keys on this other track that is REALLY intense it's like Genesis meets 9 Inch Nails or something.

I still enjoy thinking about what the odds are that after all these years I'd be working with one of my favorite musician/singer's son! Not only that but we're really good friends. Some occurrences in life really fascinate me. This and my whole experience with Genesis would be one of them.
