What is the deal with this instrument? At first, upon seeing their webpage, I thought that it looked really cool and I imagined it would be fantastic walking around on stage as a keyboardplayer with the Zen Riffer in my hand. It certainly looks cooler than the Roland AX-1/AX-7 IMHO.
But then I thought "WTF! 6000 dollars for that thing?!" It is handcrafted, I know, but I have a few friends who hand-build guitars from scratch who could design and make such a body for far less, and could also take any midicontroller keyboard I'd buy apart and build that into the body.
I really wonder what makes this guy think he can ask so much for it :S

I think the thing is trippy in a good way.
Looks like there is a patent on the way the leg inter locks with the upper base. Plus, it looks like you can get it without the wireless MIDI if you want to save some cash.
I see that list is $4900 for the upper part with the MIDI Transmission System.
I wouldn't trip. It's art.
Looks like these are custom made for each player.
Vertical as a new way to play and have a keyboard that can be played in several different ways- sitting, standing or like a guitar is looking like my future best friend.

As I said, I know a few guitar builders who'd build me something like that for half the price. Even if it is custom made for each player, the pricetag is rediculous...

Then have your friends build one of these for you then.

OMG,
Ripping off someone else's idea is totally cheezie.
How about coming up with an original idea instead of slamming
someone else's concept and then turning around and
saying you could rip it off so that you can have one for yourself for less?
Earth shattering Intelligence.

So much for intelligent discussions :S If some guy at some magazine reviews a cd and is negative about it, that is wrong also?
My point is that I am wondering if other people think the price is too high as well. As I stated in my openingpost, I really like the thing. The looks are great. But the pricing is way over the top IMHO.

It looks really neat and all, but I have to agree with those who said it seemed pricey... used to have a red Roland AX-1 keytar... I enjoyed it because it allowed me to get out from behind my keyboard stand when I sing lead... but I always got the vibe that audiences were kind of negative towards it... like... ewwww how 80s (this was about 2-3 years ago) The Zen Riffer would be cooler in that respect and it does look really nice and futuristic... but 6 grand is out of reach for even some of the most "serious" hobbyists and semi-professionals... too bad

From an ergonomic point of view, I think this might turn out to be way more than six grand's worth of back trouble.
One of the cool things about keyboard gigs is that they are a 'sitting down job'
/fnx
I'm not offended, but why 'Zen Riffer'? Why not 'Hindu Hammer', 'Islamic Slammer,' etc?

yeah really...what if someone did that to other instruments?...like guitar, before you know it we would have hundreds of strat clones everywhere...that just wouldn't be cool at all....creativeopolis wrote:As I said, I know a few guitar builders who'd build me something like that for half the price. The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Now this is funny. I don't know if the inventor reads KVR but he's pulled down all mention of prices. Now the website states the dorky "call or email about pricing"
