a ha! yup! :) just tested both ext1 and 2, still using asio4all, but with my edirol USB soundcard selected and the CPU usage goes down to around 3-5% for eXT2 and practicaly 0% for ext1. :ud:

2-3% / 36mb ram on startup
minimize : ram = 1.5mb, restore = 9mb (weird!)
slow ass startup time though (didn't really notice when this happened)

Abit ic7max3 / P4 3ghz (clocked at 3.6)
1gb ram
gforce 4mx nvidia drivers (;))

can u explain to me then why xt2 uses 9% and xt1 not even 2%
usin the same driver on the same system ?
and it seems like for everyone (even the lucky guys with high spec machines )xt2 uses at least twice as much cpu as xt1.
a sequencer when idle ideally should not use any cpu at all.
if its processin stuff even when idle just imagine when u start addin stuff ...even a small percentege adds up quickly.
i was expectin xt2 to be more efficient than ext1 personally..but at this point i would be happy to see it at least have the same performance of XT1.

I haven't checked any figures but so far it seems to me that E-XT 1.4 Stand Alone cracks up really easily and E-XT 2 is worse by far with crackling with as few as 3 synths :(

starcraft,

No, I cannot because it could be several things coming into play. On my machine xt1 and xt2 both use the same processor power, no difference at all. Perhaps the ASIO4ALL driver works better on XT1 because XT1 is an older program. Maybe XT2 runs better on duel core machines and so for folks like me there is no difference. Maybe the centrino chip (laptop?) is not as efficient with the newer code of xt2. Heck, maybe the code in xt2 is not optimized all the way yet.... The problem with this kind of thing is there are so many variables. But with many people having the same percent with xt1 and xt2, it seems to point to something else other than a strictly xt2 issue.

Just my random thoughts :)

it's only u so far who has same values for both xt1 and xt2.
and thats cos u have a monster cpu which gives 0-1% cpu usage in xt2.....and xt1 cant go beneath 0% :P

P4 2.4 1g RAM Echo Layla24 laptop

peaks at less than 9% when idle and uses about 36mb of RAM

star.... good point about the CPU can't go below 0%! I didn't think of that.... duh....

OK - on my DELL Latitude D620 Intel 2 CPU T7200 2GHz and 2Gig RAM and using ASIO4ALL v2 on the included sound chip, I get wildly fluctuating CPU between 0 and 10% - sits quite alot on 9% though.

I tried with eXT 1 and I noticed that the CPU was alot lower - 0-2% spending alot of the time on 0%. However, for some reason eXT 1 thinks that the output ports are not available in the ASIO4ALL panel. This might by influencing CPU consumption (don't know).

This is a pretty new machine to (unlike the desktop I used on my first test).

what chipset does your motherboard use?

What soundcard do you have?

How much is eXT1.4 using idle on your machine?

4-6% 2,312k mem

1.8GHz x 2, dell latitude D620 laptop, 1 Gig Ram, simtel sound card with ASIO V2.7 (512k buffer, default settings for ASIO and XT)

it seems that most of you who experience a high cpu-load with XT2 are using a laptop...

Or ASIO version 2.0 ? I have the same setup as Caleb (with a slower proc and less ram) but get less cpu and the only dif I see is I have ASIO4All v2.7 and he has 2.0

yeh same here....in xt1 i gotta tick and untick any of the boxes in the asio4all panel to make the output go green and work....but the cpu remain the same 0-2% as it was with the output deactivated. (so whether it is activated or deactivated dont seem to influence the cpu)
in xt2 strangely the asio4all panel allready has the output green and workin without clickin/unclickin anywhere.....actually showin a better understandin with xt..... but the cpu on the other hand dont seem to agree. :(
