Can the intro to Tom Sawyer be recreated with any other synth besides an Oberheim OB-X? If so, is there a tutorial on how to do it?

Post

Yeah - grab the Poly-Ana demo and the preset "Huck Finn". Done.

The OP-X from Sonicprojects has many presets dedicated to Rush, those presets are PERFECT!

Were you looking for an exact replica?

Sure, it's easy. Guess the synth:

Of the sound or the synth? I just want the sound to be as close as possible. If not, identicle.

And that OP-X has some amazing presets! I wonder if I can recreate those with a nord lead. I plan on getting one. Actually I have my eye on the Noed Wave when it comes out.

Anyway, I digress. I just want to recreate the sound myself. Moreso because I want to know how it's done. I'm still new this. I know I could just use a sample, but I want to learn how to do it.

Thanks guys.

Whatever became of Exciton? People used to tout it as very good at OBX sounds.

I almost always test out new synths by trying to re-create this sound. The closest I have gotten so far is with Arturia Minimoog V. It has that nice bright sizzle that makes the filter sweep so dramatic. I've also been able to get most of Geddy's early OB sounds on MiniV, such as the strings from Hemispheres and the lead sound in Xanadu...I suppose OB's were very similar-sounding to Moogs, maybe a bit chunkier.

Did you check out my clip jplanet? It's not perfect, but you might be surprised to learn what synth was used to make it. Surprised the hell out of me that it could get even remotely close to an OBX.
