Cool! It seems like the TBK3 isn't completely stereo linked which is AWESOME news!! Try inserting a Voxengo MSED plugin before and after a chain of TBK plugins (yes, 1 TBK3 is not enough! :hihi:). It can make things sound extremely open and nice in a squishy/dirty/broken kind of way. :D

Here are two examples, make sure you first listen to the original to get an idea of where it all began!

Original loop
Example A, 3xTBK3 compressors in series (some parallel "dry" signal let trough at the 1st and 3rd TBK)
Example A, 3xTBK3 compressors in series in a mid/side configuration, basically same as above except I added the two Voxengo MSED plugins
Example B, 3xTBK3 compressors in series (some parallel "dry" signal let trough at the 1st and 3rd TBK)
Example B, 3xTBK3 compressors in series in a mid/side configuration basically same as above except I added the two Voxengo MSED plugins

As you can hear, the MS versions have a kind of "stability" to their stereo image which makes it a bit more controlled. Actually, I think it might be smart to add simple Mid/Side routing (it can be a single button) to an update of the TBK3 in the future.

Cheers!

Hehehe.. naah, that was still pretty tame. I decided to throw OhmForce Ohmicide into the mix and ended up with this cool little variation:

Ohmicide and 1 TBK3 compressor on the same old loop

In case you are wondering what TBK did, then here is the loop with only Ohmicide

Cheers!

Is it just me, or are Sonalksis totally cashing in on the whole SimpleSqueeze paradigm?...

It is just him. The TBKs have been around for a LOOONG time... the first one was around for a fair while before it ever saw release. I like to think of it as a timeless classic ;)

That said, I can respect betabugz philosophy with UI design - as you can see we do have much more than one knob... but I think we agree on the idea that the correct and most intuitive control for what you're trying to do is what should be prominent.

Post

i know its not made for, but can you do gentle compression, too?

i will test it for myself of course.

Post

dunno.. listening to bmanic's sound examples, I can't say that tbk3 thing sounds in any way good.
really don't see a use for it.. sorry.
mangling/LoFi effects - free btw - are plenty...
if I'd want any signal heavily compressed, pumping and crushed/distorted, I'd use a pumping compressor followed by distortion/LoFi effect.

That's not meant to take anything away from Sonalksis' other great tools.

Post

here you find very clear sound examples what its all about.
http://sonalksisdev.blogspot.com/

otherwise would you consider it by any small sound examples from anyone?
test it yourself!

Simplesqueeze came out in August 2004, so I'm guessing before even TBK-1 was developed (else, you sat on it for over a year and half before releasing?).

That said, the one-knob concept wasn't unique to Simplesqueeze. It even came around because the guy behind it (Robert Randolph) wanted a simple one-knob compressor like old hardware he had used.

So, yeah, it is just NAD.

Post

yeah it's only judging by those sound examples.. why would bmanic - who's known for his good sound examples - post examples of a plugin with its' worst sounding settings?
and I looked on that blog and when I go to the link "TBK3... Mind your speakers...." there is nothing below "Before:" or below "And after:".. only blank space.
