Hi All! I just decided to start a new thread to announce the release of Scanned Synth Pro and Scanned Synth Mini (the cut-down free version). You can get it from http://www.humanoidsounds.co.uk. For those of you who don't know what Scanned Synth is, here's what Ken Harte has to say about it:

Scanned Synth uses a unique new form of synthesis inspired by advances in digital music theory. It is designed to create rich complex digital tones and fantastic sound effects, while using simplifed controls and traditional synths techniques such as filters, lfo's and effects.

Perfect for biting metallic growls, movement filled pads, and weird modular-like sound effects, ScannedSynth Pro provides a unique sound that is constantly changing and new every time you press a key. Featuring a revolutionary synthesis engine, combining the powers of both Physical Modelling and Wavetable synthesis, with simplified controls and full MIDI automation, ScannedSynth Pro is both simple and complex, powerful and easy to use.
If you've heard enough of the same boring static sounds, if you've tired of the same old methods of synthesis, if don't want to sound like everybody else- then download ScannedSynth Pro - a step beyond the clones.

Cheers,

John.

Congratulations on a release! Once I have money again I'll certainly be buying this. (Might take a while though.)

Scanned Synth Mini has a really nice skin!
Good work John!!!
I noticed that when using randomize feature buttons stay fixed, not changing any values?

Post

Can you give a rough idea on when the mac version will be ready?

Do you mean the mini or the pro version? The mini version doesn't show any parameters except the randomize buttons. These stay fixed because they control the randomizing. So on the mini you won't actually see anything change, but you sure can hear it if you play some noice!

Thanks for Scanned Synth Mini!

I'm getting lots of delay between the time I press a key and the sound. This happens with the graphical keyboard and my midi keyboard.

Is this normal? I've tried adjusting the sample rate and it doesn't make any difference.

Any suggestion?

Which buffer size and audio device are you using?

ASIO: Creative ASIO and no matter what buffer size I choose it won't let me go above 12000 samples.

I don't think you want to go UP in samples. You want to have less.... 208 samples should do since you use the same as me.

----+1, on that advice for lowering latency. Ideally, you'd use the lowest setting, but that often causes glitches even with asio drivers, but try either 512 or 256, and your latency should be very minimal. Other than that, watch the attack setting on the volume adsr, if it's set high, then the sound is just not ramping up fast enough for ya to hear right away.

Thanks for the replies, lowering the latency fixed the problem.

Jeff, I want to be clear about what is possible with the mini. After choosing a preset is there anything adjustable besides the effects and the random button?

----Not with the mini, it's just a preset playback and randomizer version I guess. If yer into it, you should probably try the demo of the full version, I believe you can program that fully, just not save patches and it has a noise burst, or sound dropout every so often.
----It's an interesting sounding synth (the mini version), just tough to really get a feel for it with the limitations. If I ever have the extra cash around, or there's a gb on it, I'll have to try out the full demo myself to see/hear if it's really as good as it kind of sounds. :D

I'm afraid there's no ETA for the Mac version yet as we haven't actually started working on it yet but if we get a good reception from Scanned Synth Pro on Windows then we'll definitely be doing a Mac version. Sorry I can't give you any more information just yet!

well - after some testing i must say is a really great synth. so "alive" !
if you like scifi sounds / alive sounds / teremin and other retro crazy gadgets + very cinematic and expressive sounds - give it a try / buy !

This synth gets +10 from Makunouchi Bento :)

i really want to point out, that scanned synth pro is much, much more than a dedicated sound-fx machine...
i've been using it on most basslines in my recent tracks, it can create great pads and leads...
and while there may be some great emulations of vintage gems out there, i feel this can sound more alive/crazy-analogue, than many of these...

definately a novel approach we should see more of...
