Tau Bassline Mk2 now shipping!

The original Tau Bassline, weapon of choice for thousands of musicians around the world, has now been completely overhauled and re-released as an entirely new product: Tau Bassline mk2

Tau Bassline Mk2 features 64-bit 2x oversampling waveform oscillators with rich analogue-like sawtooth and square waveforms, improved 18db/octave lowpass filter, Glide function and Accent mode.

All controls can be automated with MIDI CC controllers. Users can define their own CC mappings with the integrated and easy-to-use MIDI learn feature. CC mappings are saved in patches and songs automatically too.

Windows, Mac OS9 and Mac OSX VSTi versions of Tau Mk2 are now available from the Muon online shop at the reduced price of $17.50. The price will rise to $20 after August 31st.

well you certainly know how to write up some promotion..

now dont take this too hard.. but (*gulp*)

the intermittant noise though is WAY too loud and plays even when the song isnt... annoying!

tau2 sounds weird on the square wave when I pitch the sound down.. it doesnt gurgle like i thought it should (sounds really smooth and less brash).. but then again.. im only used to software replications of the 303.. but even rebirth has that hollow, yet thick bassy sound.. and that bright gurgly sound at the bottom of the piano roll... which it has (if you set the accent high).. but its less pronounced than i thought it would be..

with the same settings, this sounds more ordinary bassy... kind of round and .. i cant think of the word I want it because i keep hearing this loud "CHHHHHHH" every few seconds and its throwing me off

maybe its just my idea of what the 303 should sound like and what it really does.. *shrugs*

also I noticed some crackle when I had the square wave enabled.. no effects enabled.. and its not latency crackle.. it sounds more like its due to the accent or release of the synth.. try it with these settings

on a 0 - 10 scale (10 being highest)

accent threshold: 0
level : 10

env mod: 0
decay: 10

filter cut: 0
res: 10

fine tune: 5 (default)
osc tune: 0


now play a sequence with 16th or 32nd notes.. you should hear some weird, subtle crackling..

is this what the real 303 did??


GREAT job on the gui though.... however there is 1 minor problem i saw on it.. when it gets to the 3 o' clock position.. the shading on the knob goes completely black - the next turn of the knob is a much lighter grey.. not the end of the world.. but you know you're a perfectionist

not to be mean with all of this.. but I'm interested in this plugin.. only want to make it better.

im only used to software replications of the 303

I don't want to sound defensive here (you made some good points about the clicking/crackling which we'll look into) but if you're only used to software emulations what are you using as your reference to judge them against? if Tau2 doesn't sound like Rebirth that doesn't mean it sounds less or more like a 303 after all. It just means it doesn't sound like Rebirth

It seriously lacks deepness and dynamic...and envelope is quite strange (mod-decay).
and a big install file lol

If anyone spots what they think is a problem with the emulation, provide us with a sample from a real 303 that illustrates it and we'll be more than happy to address the problem in the next release. Our beta testers, all real 303 owners and enthusiasts, struggled pretty hard to find anything obvious though...
