It's not at all about the format, it's about the CONTENTS!

One can make superb and crappy samples with any format. As long as the format gives 16bits at least the quality is OK in theory, and only the creator influences the sound.

Now that depends on the features of Kontakt being used, and weather those features are implemented in other formats or how well the translation is done. You can't really tell without trying...

With simple material like drum hits you won't find any problem. Looped stuff may work fine also but with more complex stuff (envelopes, LFO's and filters used) you must try it.
