Sorry for the bump - but I know there's some hardcore audio manipulators around here (much moreso than I am) and I want to make sure they have a look at my proposal.
I'm betting they can add polish to the idea.

I think you did a fantastic job, Caleb! Thanks for that!

It's just that I didn't have time yet (or rather a free enough mind - due to some other XT2 related-project) to really dive into it...

Interesting. Personally I'm kind of happier with my intensive slicing going on non-destructively controlled by midi in the sampler as it is in 1.4, with maybe an easy way of getting audio clips into the sampler to be sliced or back to the drum track to be sequenced. (cf my rather extensive comments in the sampler FR thread.) I don't know why, it just feels like the sampler comp is a more natural place to have a lot of per slice controls racked up than an audio clip. I could probably get around to other ways of looking at it, though.
It's a rave, Lewis!

It's true DWb, I liked the slicer in XT1 sampler.
But I'm guessing the same algorithm for slicing could be shared in the sampler if necessary.
My main aim was moving towards a more flexible and powerful XTC format (for audio) and more inbuilt ways to get there (instead of splitting parts and then gluing for example) and as part of that could see neat integration possibilities with the Drum Track and Sampler as I went which I included - sort of a 'three birds with one stone' concept.
Even without the the slicing concept, I'd still like to pursue at least the more powerful internal channels, sub-mixer elements, although personally I'd find the inbuilt slicing to be quite beneficial.

I just thought that a picture would tell a thousand words. Although you know what I'm like, it's a picture plus a thousand words.jens wrote:I think you did a fantastic job, Caleb! Thanks for that!![]()

Just thought of an addition to my proposal.
Maybe the new and improved "Composer" which is rumoured to be able to work on audio parts and midi parts and be the greatest thing since pizza could handle alot of the slice functionality/options.
It could even probably have some really cool editing behaviour in processing random pitch changes, rearrangement of slices, more groovy quantise options. Ah that Composer - I never stop dreaming about how wonderful it's going to be.

im a dnb producer from germany (http://www.polarity-dnb.de/), and i do most of my drums on audio tracks in cubase (i use it also to cut basslines and other stuff). i use for every sound (snare / hat / kick etc.) a seperate track and these very well implented stretch and pitch algorhytms. so thats all atm that im missing in "ext", the possibility to have nondestructive audio editing tools.
i wish i can switch over to ext, because im feeling cubase is getting richer and richer with features i dont need. so the best thing about ext i think is his minimalism. i think you did a great job on this one. im looking forward to use ext regulary as my main sequencer.
keep your path and stay away from selling it to steinberg or apple.

- Better Options & workflow to clean up Audio Pool
(f.e. : - deleting severals Files at once, maybe also from the disk
- better Auto-Filenaming, naming the audio according to track name
- more flexible Setting of Audio Folder, so far you can't change
once designated)
- Enhanced loop recording, like the one we had in XT 1.4
with the Meta-Parts
- Strip Silence option to better do slight corrections
f.e. of recorded Drum Tracks or vocals

I'm not sure - it would need to be an advanced algorithm as in Reaper and that makes using it so complicated that I think doing it manually will often be quicker.
Besides I think it will take a lot of coding time which atm might better be spend on some other much more crucial stuff - just my opinion on this of course.
Just to make sure: I'm not slagging of the idea, it's just that I don't think it beloongs into the same category of 'should have been there yesterday' as your other two requests.

One way of stripping silence might be to use two sequencers and a gate that sends midi? I'm not sure how to set it up exactly, but it has to be possible without a lot of effort, I believe.

would be a way to reduce noise, but then you are not able to move the partsMighty Pea wrote:One way of stripping silence might be to use two sequencers and a gate that sends midi? I'm not sure how to set it up exactly, but it has to be possible without a lot of effort, I believe.

No, but that's where the midi comes in. If you can make the midi toggle the record-button, while keeping the playback going, you could only record while there's sound, and end the clip when the gate closes? I'm afraid this isn't currently possible, but it should be! That's the strength of a modular host.
