using it in a send channel is like parallel compressing, right?
i dont need a mix knob.

Hmm...

I love it, it would be a real boon to Cubase-users like me who pine for the dry/wet fjords of the more flexible hosts. It would have to be very cheap, though, considering the neglible costs of said flexible hosts like energyXT, which can run in Cubase as a VST host; but I would love to have something even more simple, especially with the Sonalksis design ethos. :tu:

And just you guys wait until you see what we have up our sleeves in a cpl o months.....

tellin no more....
Fair enough (it was Dave's idea!). Now what the hell could you guys be working on...? :help:

Add in a phase switch and a m/s encoder and decoder, the ability to load more than one effect, and modular routing and you would have yourself a killer utility.

what's the benefit of M/S? I don't get it...

This is a cool little comp and you'll be getting a purchase from me real soon. My one request feature wise would be something to tame the make-up gain on this bad boy. It's so easy to go from no-reduction to "JESUSTHAT'SLOUD" by getting a bit too happy with the big knob.

BTW, I'm not even going to make the obvious joke about playing with the "big knob."

Isn't that what the slider on the bottom right is for?

The slider on the bottom right isn't automatic though  .

What I found myself doing during the hour or so I was messing around with TBK was this, "Ok, turn big knob right...barely any compression...barely any compression...Whoah! That's loud!"

Turns output slider down.

"Ok, let's try a new setting...Woah! That's loud!"

Turns output slider down again.

"Ok, that sounds cool...what's this Fierce button do? JESUSTHAT'SLOUD!"

Turns off fierce button in a hurry. Then turns output down some more.

"Ok, let's try this Fierce knob again..."

Next thing I know, the output is down insanely low and my track is still clipping. There's some sort of automatic makeup gain going here if I'm not loosing my mind, and like most automatic makeup gain's, it's a little too over-zealous on most program material (a la Kjaerhus). Perhaps I just want the ability to turn it off (a la Kjaerhus).

Otherwise, great comp! On first go around with it, I liked it a lot more on drum directs than on overheads/rooms (where I found it a little too extreme), but I haven't done any parallel processing with it yet.

I loved the bad-ass kicks and snares I was able to get with it though. This will make a nice Dave Fridmann crazy compressed drum sound compressor.

Holy shit, I've been playing it twice and can't get enough of it... I don't care about the comp you used but this is great !
This does sound really good. Pumps me up! :D Is that Slayer for the guitar part? LOUDER is BETTER. 8)

Dude, it's all about the parallel with this mutha! :hihi:

Not sure about the "quiet, quiet, LOUD" thing, I'll play with tomorrow and see; I found it pretty reasonable...for a super-drastic compressor with make-up gain! Which I agree usually sounds really loud when they're maximizing to -0db, but I found the gain attenuator on the side was fine to work with.

Yes it's all FL Studio native plugins doing the sounds.. Slayer for all the "guitar wannabe" things and BooBass doing the bass. There's also a subtle FabFilter Volcano on the "chorus" guitars (Volcano is heavily distorted and set at a wet/dry mix of 30%/70%). It's a great way of composing something in less than 2 minutes in FL Studio! I was just humming the main guitar riff and put it down in the piano roll with slayer.. added some effects, some chopped up drum loops and TBK3 of course. :)

Cheers!

The best bet really is to pull down the output slider. If you want to use this thing fiercely, you'll have to use the output slider to level things off because this thing is so brutal.

Also, if you pay close attention, the makeup gain actually works pretty damn good from 1 - 10. Dave spent weeks on just this part of the compressor to get it sounding right.

It's between 10 and 11 - when that extra light activates - that it gets more interesting :D

Alas, mine does not (Cubase haters rejoice!). Actually, it does have excellent dry/wet control...on the Offline Processing dialogue...? :(
I'm not familiar with Cubase... but really? You can't adjust dry/wet on effects at all except for as a rendering process? This kinda blows my mind!

Can't do it in live either, if I remember correctly. Or well, you can, but not without using a device-rack plugin as container...
