Not looking for 30 articulations of soprano flute... I am looking for hits, fills, orchestra stabs etc. Anybody care to recommend me a good library?

I think Edirol's "Orchestral" VSTi sounds good for hiphop and game music. It's not high end and maybe a little cheesy but it has a full sounds and works. It's been around a while and you can probably find it cheap.

For hits and stabs - check out various free GM soundfonts available on the net. Some will have good hits in them.

Not to be too much of a rule breaker, but classical music is pretty much public domain.
If you grab a Beethoven record it has probably been recorded by at least 50 different people which would make it hard to find who owns the actual recording.
It's not exactly fair use, but pretty close in my opinion (note my opinion has no legal merit).
Sampling from vinyl is about as hip hop as it gets and classical is one of the safest things to sample.....just a thought.

No, sampling classical music is not legal unless the recording itself has an expired copyright - which probably won't be the case unless it was made before 1940 or so. Classical SONGS are public domain, RECORDINGS are not, until they naturally expire.
Shreddage 3 Stratus: Next generation Kontakt Player guitar, now available!

Impact Soundworks - Cinematic sounds, world instruments, electric guitars, synths, percussion, plugins + more!

Not sure of any library that would suit your needs, but this place might tide you over until you find it:

I didn't say the recording was public domain. I said there's probably 50 recordings of the same thing floating around which would make it real hard to get caught.
Also think about fair use, it's possible to sample and stay within fair use while having "hip hop " strings.

Go for a low-end library like EWQLSO Silver or GPO. They are fairly cheap. Edirol Orchestral is not very good quality compared to those two. Emerald (as Kenjin mentioned) is great but you need Kontakt/Gigastudio to run it.

Symphony Orchestra Emerald include its vast list of sampled instruments and articulations, LegatoLive performance tools, use of alternates (K2 Round Robin), and flexible programming!
not exactly what I'm looking for, but thanks...

Zero-G has a good one on their website that you can download for cheap. If you're interested PM me and I'll track down the name for you. I bought it and it's excellent.

You can do hiphop with any library, it just depends on it how you use it.

If it's Orchestral loops try PowerFX's Downtown Strings 1+2 and Downtown Orchestral. That also have Gabi Masso Strings incredible string loops from
middle East which work great in Hip Hop. www.powerfx.com

If you want to legally sample an orchestra go with Symphonic Manoeuvres from Big Fish. It's a live recorded orchestral construction kit product. There is some great stuff in there that hip hop guys will eat up.
