hello all

so atm i still cant decide which way to go, in a as cheap as possible way, since i anyway own a Mackie CR1604 VLZ as main mixer..
the point is: waste of power and heating a gogo in a small room without air conditioning thats already beyond the alarm levels as temperature for human survivance...its summer and the new fanless PSU for the DAW pc doesnt help at all...

my 2 options so far :

-getting an ultracheap behringer like this one http://www.behringer.com/502/index.cfm?lang=eng
its a mixer , yes but for that price i can even thinking about getting one that can be always be useful in small "live" situations for combining lines levels or even simply routing them...
since i dont need crystal clear audio quality since anyway ill be just using it with headphones during the night, thats the cheaper solution

-getting a preamp amplifier for headphones like this one
http://www.activemusician.com/item--EM.SACCONTROL that would allow me to route the output thru 3 way , therefore patching , say , the main mixer and another input like the DAT machine (if i happen to mend it before ;P)
or even this one http://www.samsontech.com/products/prod ... &brandID=2

what would you choose? waiting with my ears wide open :D

You can get a small Air Conditioner, and if no suitable window is usable, put it in the largest room, or room furthest away from your recording area (as the heat output of the A.C. will least effect you in those areas), and run some flexible insulated furnace duct (picture an 18-inch slinky toy, wrapped with plastic covered insulation, to your recording area. Make a simple header out of cardboard/duct-tape, to connect the A.C. output, to the flex duct...of course, you can just locate the end of the duct in other rooms as needed, if heat is oppressive while cooking or sleeping...

hey :)
thanx anyway for the advice, i considered it already but ATM im broke to get a small sized Class A conditioning system , things i think i will able to do only for next year's summer :(
so im heading towards the temporary buying of the cheaper temporary solution in terms of having only the option to listen with hphones without turning on a whole 16 tracks mixer only to have the L & R outs of the audio card plugged in...
thx anyway, much appreciated

The 1604VLZ consumes about 50W, never really felt it radiating... Maybe a small headphone amp is the way to go.

get the mini behringer, you'll find use for it (i use mine to avoid unplugging the tv and laptop and hear them both if i need in my bedroom (ub502)

hey guys thanx for the assistance :)
the mackie will be turned off unless i work with hw for all the summer and during the night at least ...too small room , cant have much air and the 2 pcs around one of them with passive PSU unit is quite too much too handle...i kinda melted 10 cm sided dimensioned candles that were at half meter from the mixer to give you a vague idea of the reason i cant stand it anymore :P
i think at the end ill go towards the microminismallie behringer...its the cheaper situation around and in the same time the eventually more useful situation to have further use of it (read mini live acts or integration with the pa and the dj set)
i was VERY tempted by that samson unit tho...theres , on that line of products, even the valve preamp that is just quite appealing :)

thx to everyone anyway ;)

dreaddd,

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=182041

Not as sexy as the XENYX 502, and the Xenyx is only $5 bucks more, but way fewer moving parts to break and no change to the sound.

Mine has been working great for a long time now.
