Fruity Loops 'Import Beat to Slice' Anything similar?

I'm running Logic on my Mac and was wondering if anyone knows if there is a plugin or some software that mimics the 'Import Beat to Slice' option in Fruity Loops. Or something similar that would automatically cut up and separate an audio track into stab, hit and sample parts?

FL does a really good job at cutting up the slices, sets them up nicely under one playable layer and creates one .ZGR file that extends functions. I myself have wondered if there was something out there that does the same thing..
I've found that many softsamplers can do almost the same thing. From personal experience Vsampler (PC) will do this so I have to assume that some of the more pro softsamps will do pretty much the same thing (Kontakt 2, SampleTank, GigaStudio, E-MU Emulator® X2, and perhaps even Extreme Sample Converter/Samplelord) in that they will load up several samples into 1 instrument and perhaps even export a corresponding MIDI file. I would definatly look into as many different softsamplers as you can find.
As for standalone software, I know that Propellerheads Recycle will export either separate files or one Soundfont file with corresponding MIDI file so I would also look at the multitude of soundfont apps and plugins out there.

Guru does a great job of importing audio and extracting the individual hits and patterns from them. You can then replace the kit and keep the pattern or keep the kit and replace the pattern. Its a great way of working with audio and rex files.

Yes, you can transfer the pattern. I'm not in front of my DAW now so I can't check whether it can 'save as .mid' but you can definately drag and drop the pattern into your host and save it from there.Lagrange wrote:Are these "patterns" transferable as 'save as *.mid' file for instance?auricle wrote:Guru does a great job of importing audio and extracting the individual hits and patterns from them.
I'm going to take another look at Guru.. Please let me know..

One thing to remember is that Guru can only have a maximum of 16 parts so super complex rythms might not sound as intended. In this case you can choose which slices to keep or not. Everything is non-destructive so you can change your mind later. I've never had any problems and I've used some pretty busy beats.
Check the demo out to see if it works for you.
[edit] I've just checked and there isn't any 'export midi file' function. However, like I mentioned above, you can easily drag and drop the pattern into your host DAW or sequencer.

stylus rmx can do so with rex but i dont think thats what your looking for. Guru or phatmatic pro would probabbly be your best bet.

Yep, drag n drop is the way to go.Yes, you can transfer the pattern. I'm not in front of my DAW now so I can't check whether it can 'save as .mid' but you can definately drag and drop the pattern into your host and save it from there.
No longer true in 1.1, the max is now 128.One thing to remember is that Guru can only have a maximum of 16 parts so super complex rythms might not sound as intended.
