hmm ... bmanic ... i don't think this will help you too much in the long term ...
it's all about actually "playing" the sounds ... i mean, that's how sounds will be used mostly (exeptions tighten the rules of course) ...
when i do sounddesign, i mostly play and tweak simultanesly, to keep the feel of playing in the patch ... after that (mostly one lick turns out to work nice with the patch), for finetuning, i record that lick, edit it to the conditions it desires (i.e. velo max and 0, used controllers max and 0 sweeping), then fineadjusting the patch to perfection, setting up the most-correct ranges for modulation, etc ...
but to actually get to that point, real playing (imo) is an important key ...

I agree. I actually find that if I program to a set MIDI file, it sounds fine on that file, but when I go and play the preset by itself, it sounds totally different and not usually very good.brok landers wrote:...real playing (imo) is an important key ...
OTOH, while programming, I play a particular riff that fits the preset. If I later use the preset in a song, I ALWAYS end up having to edit the preset to get it to work in the song (unless I build a whole song up around it).
MIDI controllers are pretty reasonable now. It's best to just bite the bullet and get one.
My trouble is that I don't have one with aftertouch. I'm shocked that it's 2007 and most MIDI keyboards STILL don't have that. I could understand that back in 1983, but not now. Damn cheapskates.

I totally agree but at the moment I'm stuck without a midi keyboard of any kind at home.. and I can not possibly use the studio time for creating presets for synths. So I figured the best compromise is to get somebody else to play some small midi snippets and create presets on the basis of those!brok landers wrote:hmm ... bmanic ... i don't think this will help you too much in the long term ...

The problem with your argument above is that what you really are finetuning, is the preset to your own playing and your own keyboard velocity/aftertouch "curve/sensitivity". So in a way, it is equally valid to use a midi file that somebody else has played in, no? The file would of course have to be a real performance with modulation and proper dynamics to be of any use.
Oh well.. maybe I can convince the wife that I need "just another keyboard" for home use.. but we all know how that goes down!
Cheers!

bmanic I have a half working Roland D-10 you can have if you just come and take it. it still occasionally works ok if you hit it really hard in just the right spot on the front panel.

Hi Brok
Awsome presets, awsome demo. Postive thinking, sense of humour...
I won't say more but i'll try to find some room near the statue of HS in my garden
Thought of Albino at the first hearing, just because of the filters, but as I've never tried Nexus or a lot of other stuff people where discussing about, I prefered to keep my mouth shut.
Next time I'll open it (and of course i'll B wrong
)
Congratulations

I'm surprised you didn't include some kind of Vp-330 or Solina emulation patches ? Or did you ?
