IIRC, RMIV requires you to use its built-in browsing windows, and doesn't allow drag-n-drop onto the pads from Explorer. So IMHO, RMIV could be easier.

Does it even let you audition hits before loading them? I can't remember, tried it a long time ago...

Sascha -- what do you find limiting in Guru aside from the slicer and the number of pads onscreen?

Not much, to be honest. The sample editing could offer more detail (read: a larger screen) and the browser could be a bit bigger (best: user resizeable) as well.
But I guess my main gripe is the slicing (well, you already know that...) and the number of cells visible at once (which, of course is somewhat related to the slicer).
Time to get back on the GURU list, I just need to get all my stuff back together, now that my "studio" is all fresh and so.

well i just wanted to be able to load old 8-bit wavs really,not a bitcrusher fx,
vsts mostly do 16/24 so any extra file types would be good.

I'd like to see the ability to properly import .kit and .kt2 files.Some of us would like an alternative to Battery but be able to bring our kits with us.

That would be good, but I have no idea how possible it is. If it is possible, it would only be an approximate import, as Battery has a different feature set.

sonarman -- you might want to try the sonic assault sample player. It's pretty good, but I think I would still like an improved 202.

I've done a little more work on the drum sampler and there is a preview version available for download. For the time being it's working name is "Poise".

It is still a simple drum sampler. While I can see the value of the features everyone has requested, my time is limited, so I've decided to reduce the feature set and focus on creating a good workflow.

I'm just checking this out now, and it's already passed the first test - I can audition a hit in Explorer and drag it onto a pad - yes! As I stated before, lack of audition/preview is usually the killer for me when it comes to homemade drum samplers.

Is "Save Note Map" what it sounds like - I can name and save my own mapping? (I like C1 to be lower left) I guess I'll find out soon enough. This looks really nice; for some time now I've wanted to build/commission my own drum sampler...this is very much what I'd envisioned. Simple and to the point, but with the features that really count.

Look forward to playing more with this...

Having a built-in sequencer is nice, but debatable whether it's a necessity. Depends on how much you like your host's capabilities, I suppose. As for looks, personally I don't care much so long as 1) things are where they should be for intuitive workflow, and 2) there aren't any big stupid graphics which appear out of place given the context of the instrument. Just my feelings on these, FWIW...

As for Poise, I take it the Samples area is still being worked on? The Directory feature doesn't seem functional yet. No matter for me, as I prefer to use my host's explorer over built-in browsers, but just wondering. Will the built-in browser still allow you to preview the hit? Is that what the knob at the bottom is for?

EDIT: Almost forgot - a REVERSE button please!

i am tested poise, and its working very well,
but a little confused:
the selector Direction Window is behind the Options Form Window and it is for some people not visible and the
Options Form window cant move, so they think it does not work, but its working !
move the options form window on the side of desktop, click for directions and you see...
I love this little progs wich do what they do !!!

Indeed the window is there - and functional - but behind the Options window!

However, the samples are not previewing in the browser- are they supposed to? What is that knob at the bottom for?

Just found an odd behavior (bug?):

In Reaper, I double-clicked on a sample in the browser, and it created a track with that sample on it (as if I had dbl-clk'd on a sample in Explorer). From then on, just single-clicking on a sample in the browser creates a new track (with the sample) in Reaper's arrangement.
