I have a mixer connected to sound card..(sound card is connected to laptop) and event reference monitors connected to mixer...
I am getting feed back when I put the sound level more than half...
There is nothing opened as DAW or anyother software...
What can cause this?

Mute the builtin microphone of your laptop, using Windows volume control mixer

How have you wired the soundcard to the mixer? Are you sending the output from the soundcard to a channel on the mixer and then back into the soundcard input via the master output? That could cause a feedback loop. It's usually best to use the 2 track send and return for connecting a soundcard, rather than running it into a mixer channel. Depends what mixer you are using ...

I am exactly doing how you described and it seems I have feedback problem when I put my electroguitar into mixer...
You mean I should exclude mixer from the system at all or make a different set up over the mixer..
How can I do that?
by the way, it seems laptop mic is not functional when soundcard is on...

Do you mean a hollow body with 'f' holes ?Sanai wrote:electroguitar
I think those are sensitive to feedback. Try turning it away from your speakers ?

Also, break down the setup to the bare minimum: use the mixer stand-alone with the monitors on main outputs and only the electric guitar at the input. Just to cut out the laptop from the equation... Does it still happen then? Could be the element of the guitar. What make/model/type is it exactly?
If it doesn't happen then, you may have a feedback loop created through the laptop. Surely if some outputs of the mixer go into the laptop, and the line input is selected in the Windows volume mixer applet, and the output of the llaptop goes into the mixer (which in turn goes back into the laptop.) The cure then could be to mute the line in of the laptop in it's volume control applet.

sorry guitar made it confused..
I have a presonus inspire soundcard... An Alto 110 mixer...Mixer is connected to soundcard... my monitors also connected to mixer... And mixer connected as said by thecontrolcenter in his first reply...
Problem is... I get feed back when;
1- I dont mute 3/4 from inspire soundcard interface... When I mute no feedback...
2- I open ableton LIVE file... Arm an audio track, put guitar plug ininto mixer line.. Open guitar rig, set a harsh tone and get feedback...eventhough I stay away from the monitors..
I wonder if there is a monitoring other than my reference monitors...
Or else..
thanks for your patience

My first reply mentioned 2 possible routing options. It would be much easier to give you advice if you could be more precise about how you have your mixer setup. There are many ways to route sound in and out ... please take the time to describe EXACTLY which ins and outs on your soundcard and mixer you are using, and which output your monitors are connected to, etc ... I have a very similar setup to you, and use Live6 to record guitars all the time. If the feedback is only happening when you are monitoring your guitar at high levels, then turn your monitors down, or as suggested earlier, use headphones.Sanai wrote:Mixer is connected to soundcard... my monitors also connected to mixer... You obviously are creating a feedback loop. Draw the signal flow chart out by hand, and you'll have a "d'huh" monent when you see why it's feeding back.

mixer tape out goes to soundcards input3/4... Mixer line in 5/6 goes to soundcard output left right holes...monitors are connected to the control room left right holes of the mixer... soundcard is connected to laptop... I connect guitar to mixer line in 1... Thats all the connections... is it clear?

There you have your loop: soundcard line out -> mixer line in 5/6 -> mixer tape out -> sound line in -> soundcard line out.
Mute the line in of the soundcard with the Windows volume control / mixer applet.

the soundcard outputs should be connected to the mixers tape in ... that way the 2 track to control room button can be used to monitor either the PC or the mixer. The way you are set up at the moment , with the PC on a mixer channel, you are sending the signal from the soundcard back into the soundcard via the tape outs and creating a feedback loop.
