Hey forum,
maybe you know s.th. about this issue: Is the nord lead III still available ?
I tried to check prices but it seemed that almost every big shop doesn't have it anymore
("not available anymore"). Can't be true, right?

My second question: what hardware-alternatives what you suggest? I'm looking for a warm analog sound (as amlost everyone ;) ) and it should be max. 2000 euros...virus seems to technoid for me. nord lead II seems to have a slightly different characteric sound than the lead III I've heard? So maybe this would be an alternative..?!

ciao,
forw

Nord Lead 3 was discontinued long ago. Nord Lead 2X is a better choice anyway since it sounds much better in my (and most people's) opinion.

Don't knock the Virus until you try one!! Its more thsn a one trick pony!
As far as other alternatives... you could look at the Korg Radias, Moog 'little Phatty' or a Roland V Synth. They are all pretty different. Best bet is to try before you buy.

Little Phatty is a half trick pony.
V-Synth is cool but doesn't do it to me.
Radias is very nice, but definitely not the best if you're looking for "warmth".
Virus is very nice and very versatile.
Nord Lead 2X is the warmest, tightest of them all.

And Mikelo is right, if you can try them somewhere, do that.

Hi Shy,
yes I must agree, the Nord Lead X2 does have a very nice warm sound.
Another synth I forgot to mention was the Roland SH 201. It also has a nice warm sound, very much like the old JP8000.

I would also recommend Nord Lead 2X instead of V3 (It is cheaper and have much more presence and bite compared to No3).

You could also be a little patient and wait for the Nord Wave which will be a subtractive/FM Synth and a rompler/wavetable in 1 synth with built in effects :D

It is going to replace V3.

More info can on the synth can be found here ;)

The nord 3 is an absolute weapon. Seems to have a bad rep compared to the 2 since it sounds quite different but theres plenty of sounds it can do that you just wont get out of the 2.

I wasn't a fan of it at first and considered selling it but very glad that I didn't now as its a surprisingly deep synth. You can really shape the sound with the various FM and pulse with combinations. Quite a textured synth as opposed to the sheer balls of the NL2. Reminds me of the micro Q a little bit... it has a kind of hard metallic edge to it at times. Still, it can be very thick and lush sounding aswell.

Perhaps not for everyone but don't believe the hype and actually try one out if you can.
