That circuitbending trend is pretty much dead now isn't it?

I think the trend of people jumping into circuit bending for the sake of making money is dead. the people who thought that they had found a quick buck have mostly moved on to other things as the market died out. people who got into it because they like to tinker, experiment or build shit still persist. the concept will always appeal to that demographic and as fewer people are interested in spending $300 for a modified $5 keyboard the movement will (hopefully) progress to something more open and less secretive.

I really f**king hate people who (seemingly) do nothing but buy up SK-1's and either hawk them on eBay or 'bend them and sell them on eBay. They keep people like me, who want to bend shit for their own use and personal fun, from having a decent chance at finding the goddamn thing.

In about a year of going to thrift stores and church sales I've found one SK-1 and one Speak-and-Spell. Looking thru amount that crop up on eBay, I say asshats are suspect.

I've been bending since 2003 I think it was, but really haven't done anything for almost two years. Its just got too expensive and time consuming. For a time I was bending and selling or selling what I didn't bend, but only briefly.
These days I see a lot less action on the message boards, maybe its because of the book, people don't need to ask as many questions.
I still love my sk-1s, speaks, and others but really once I spend a day sampling them they don't get used at all.

I've got some toys I've been meaning to sell, hmmm.

I've bent one SK-1 and made a mess of it (it was one of my first projects). I paid something like $30 for it on eBay. as much as I loved the results I refuse to spend that much on another SK-1 to make a better version. I've also only found one Speak and Spell and it turned out to be busted. I've never really cared as much for the Speaks as I have other projects.

I might have bad luck, but most of the toys I've picked up haven't turned out that well. most of my efforts have been focused on stompboxes, since they have wider application potential. I went through a phase where I sold everything I bent because I needed the money, but lately I've been stockpiling my projects again. I'm also hoping to relocate to an area with a better thrift store market sometime soon...

what would be the best device to bend to get bubble-mod type sounds??..I was thinking of a transistor radio..basically it would be great to control pitch, mod amount and rate..but something that creates mod effects. No vocal stuff like a speak and spell..but more synth like, or sine wavy like.

Hi All

Here is my first CB device. Not bad for a first time( although I have to say my soldering was kinda spotty..but it worked!)

It is a game called "The True You"..a girlie profile game. I put in a pitch glitch knob, a glitch momentary switch, and found this point that overrides everything and goes into a very cool atmo which changes with the knob and momentary button.

Here is what it sounds like:

EDIT: no effects this time
The first few seconds is the actual game, until I turn the knob :-) The knob is a bit sensitive. Listen for the cool atmo switch mentioned above.

Here is what it looks like( kinda fuzzy pic..sorry about that) I also installed a Blue LED that changes according to the output, so it is very cool when it starts to flicker. I also installed an output jack for easy connection to my setup.

Here is a pic of some CB devices my friend brought over, and we had a good sampling session:

Now..to see what else I can bend, now that I got parts and a setup :-)

Sounds cool, although the fx make it hard to know exactly whats going on. Sounds like it's capable of some crazy stuff. You'd be suprised at what some seemingly useless junk toys can do once you start messing with them.

Look forward to seeing your future projects :)

Tim, mind strippin' out the FX? I'm more interested in what it sounds like, how how 'riffic Camelspace is.
