hi

How do I get Tau 2 to produce that really rough, metallic grating/growling as heard in many a Hardfloor track (the 303 kings).

I can't seem to take the Tau 2 to that extreme.

cheers

Route it through a Boss HM2 Heavy Metal pedal, I've been told that was how they used to do it.

Hmm...I've got one of these little babies from the early 80s - do you think it would suffice ?

hm, you aren't the real swayzak (i mean the existing and releasing project) ?

if you were you would know how hardfloor did it...

ok, just kidding...

years ago i made the distorted 303 sounds with a boss os-2 distortion pedal, should be nearly the same result as with the pedal mentioned above...

I found IK multimedia amplitube works pretty well for acid style riffs. I believe the reason is most used guitar distortion pedals with their tb303's in the old days. I found I got easier the result I hoped rather than using some other distorion plugin. Only downside is the high price but I believe it's worth it since you can use it with any bass/guitar sound and get incredible results.

I remember reading that the RAT distortion pedal was a bit of a late 80s early 90s favourite.

Me, I was a cheapskate and simply used to whack up the gain on my (analogue) desk. Works a treat

Mackie 8 buss was great for that and surprisingly my 01v does a good job of it too, used to use a BassStation cranked that way live and it sounded great.

Yup, it was a bass station here too. We bust the cutoff knob on it from excessive acid tweaking. I have to treat the 303 with a bit of respect too 'cos its not in such good nick :(

Thankfully I've got a Phatboy so I can quite happily spank Tau2 till the cows come home. Hours of fun, even if I do say so myself :D

HaHa, been spankin it a fair bit myself with my Evolution, and yes, hours of fun here too :D

I don't have Tau2 yet -- just bought it last night, awaiting delivery -- but I tried Tau with SuperCamelPhat2, and the results were quite acidic. 8)

I typically follow Tau with PredatOhm: I think multi-band distortion is the way to go for precise mix tweakery!

Still gotta try the Tau2 demo...

I wasn't planning on buying any more synths for a while, but after playing with the Tau 2 demo through a bunch of plugs (simulanalog-> mda overdrive -> PSP VW) with dunk's step sequencer, I gave in and placed my order.
:help: :D
