you got me there, squids...i was more referring to updates than released products ;).

On that note, and relating to SS2, I had reported a while back that some (many) of the drum kits seem to have all many of their "release" times set too low to be useful as oneshot triggered samples. Is this corrected in the new version or is a ficx expected?

Post

Which drum patches specifically are you refering to?

To make the tailored to your own liking though you can just zone edit the releases how you like it and save a child preset though.

Squids - can't think of them while I'm not in front of it, so here's some stuff from the first thread that discussed it:

Question regarding the drum kits on SS2. It seems that on a lot of the kits, the release of some of the keys within the kit has been set to much too short to be useful. For example, on the IMap Daniel Kit...the C key, where there is a crash - the crash doesn't ring unles you hold the key. The toms in this kit are the same way. I can go into the zone controls and adjust the release for each key and then save it as a new preset, but a bunch of the kits are this way.
You replied with:
Yeah, this was a slightly annoying mistake in some of the programming that I've pointed out for the next update. By the way, we are working on a MAJOR update to Sonik Synth 2. It is too early to say anything about it yet but it will fix any issues with sounds such as that plus a lot more.
I suppose that since you don't recall the conversation that it probably didn't make it to the updates.

I CAN edit them myself, but honestly, it's a lot of the kits and a lot of the notes in each of the kits that have the problem. I also don't understand the "release" number that it necessary to get it to sound like it should. For example, it seems like you have to set it way above where it should have to be for the sound you want - 6 seconds for a crash cymbal just so it doesn't get cut off - when it seems there's only about 3 secs of sample there.

I think IK is keeping a decent pace considering the sheer number of releases they churn out each year. In 2007 they've got Miroslav Classic Edition, AT Jimi Hendrix, SampleTank 2.5, SampleMoog, SampleTron and Studiophonik, then there's the hardware (Stomp IO) plus a number of distributed products (RiffWorks, R.A.W. etc) plus various maintenance updates.

Most of it seems to be on time (roughly), but they chose to announce these products quite long before the tentative release dates, and due to the unpredictable nature of software development that's a bit like a 6-month weather forecast.

Personally I hope they have nothing more coming before mid August, or my vacation will be all shot to hell!

Maybe you didn't hear me (see my post) the first time bro...:?:

Has anyone heard about a release date yet?

Sorry. There might be. I haven't had time to compare what was announced and what is the final. But, I think there are some added things... well, I know I requested a bunch of things for the Sonik Instrument range but they are little things like an extra attenuator in one of the channel strip effects and things like that. Stuff that relates to the new global and master effects system (which is incredible by the way!!!!).

It's very VERY close now. I'll try to find out exactly when but definitely before AES I think and maybe WAY before.... like any day soon. I already have it here but that doesn't mean it is compiled in all of the formats. I mainly use VST on Windows when I develop for it.

AES is: Friday October 5 - Monday October 8, 2007
What is WAY before, since any day soon (in my definition) has already passed. :) Just poking for the fun of it! (Why not, I painted Santa with a brown nose, just for the fun of it) ;)

SampleTank 2.5 will be here in September. We're going to begin pre-orders on www.esoundz.com next week!

By the way, ST2.5 is a free upgrade for all registered ST2XL users. Not bad eh? IK has offered a lot of free updates for ST2 users. First 2.1 and 2.2 and now even 2.5! You get CSR and a whole new effects system plus improved Stretch and a bunch of other nice features. It can read all of the Sonik Instruments and Miroslav Philharmonik too! It's pretty sweet!

Post

I mentioned this in another thread but it is more on topic here:

I forgot to mention to everyone but now that ST2.5 will be released ummmm.... this is what we were waiting for to do Studiophonik right. The ability to have an insert of effects that goes on the WHOLE module as well as the ability to do send and return effects all inside the module. To be honest, I've never liked the fact that the reverbs in ST were only inserts because if you wanted reverb on every part internally you had to re-use it over and over which takes up CPU. So, now you can run one reverb (even the CSReverb from Philharmonik that now comes with ST2.5... again for free as an update for ST2 XL users!) and just send parts to it like you would when mixing. With Studiophonik being a "studio in a box" for a virtual highly realistic band this was crucial for it. So first comes the engine then comes the products people have been waiting for like this one. Also SampleMoog and SampleTron too. All coming within the next couple of months.

:hyper: looking forward to samplemoog

Is it going to be a downloadable upgrade? How much will it cost? (SampleTank "L" user here)
