Well, if it's any consolation, I do love the xhip_filter, I just hold out hope for a more stable iteration.

Try Poly-Ana. Similar filter. Works. Free for a week. WAY bigger architecture. I thought of everything.

Post

I'm talking the effect version of the filter, I don't really use synths much. I've tried your filter plugins, and while I like them, I like the xhip filter better.

Post

XHip comes as an effect too? Where's the download?

Post

http://xhip.cjb.net/xhipeffects/

And the most recent version of the filter posted earlier in this thread:

http://xhip.cjb.net/temp/public/binary/ ... ter_v8.dll

Just playing around with NaiveLPF at the moment. The saturation seems weird to me, but I dig the way the envelope works when sent to negative values.

"I use the filter a lot, but find whenever a very high gain signal goes in, the filter starts emitting harsh white noise. I try my best to avoid having too hot signals, but sometimes it's inevitable. Anything I should be adjusting (headroom maybe?) to avoid the white noise crackle, or is it an alpha thing?"

yeah the headroom set to -18db should be fine for signals below 0db. in certain circumstances it can explode with other signals. i need to do a bit more testing and work on it and really put it into a proper shell rather than the guiless version that exists at the moment. the last version i uploaded i thought worked fine, and i thought the headroom problem was fixed. it might be that you're not using that version.

latest should be (should) http://xhip.cjb.net/temp/public/binary/ ... filter.dll

i really need to fix up all the effects and package them into a new zip, it's just i've been wanting to spend all my time with xhip since it is taking a lot longer than i planned to get to beta 7. we're pretty close now though, the next things on the to-do will fly by once i get on them.

if this one is still unstable in any way let me know and i'll fix it. issues like you mention are easy to fix. i'm pretty sure like i said though that i've already fixed both things except for noise bursts in extreme conditions. i think i was talking to either djsubject or another person on msn while fixing it the last time and i remember getting it working for him.

gsoto; the clicking you mention with modulation of amplitude or lfo has been an issue that occurs once in a while when i make changes. the problem is that i forget to set up the range correctly after making the change and wrapping occurs at extreme values. there shouldnt be any click if you use slightly less than 100% mod depth as a temporary solution.

"When you use the filter in self oscillation, hitting a note while it is still playing (long release) produces a pop."

that may indeed be a bug, i'll have a look at that in a bit.

oh actually, i forgot i added the effects releases section to the site.

http://xhip.cjb.net/xhipeffects/

i'll try to keep the latest versions in there, and i'll start using the same s.b.a.r versioning that i currently use with xhip.

Excellent, I don't think I was using this version. This one seems to be working fine. Thanks.

I have little use for hurting people intentionally.

ouch! What happened whilst I was away?!!!! World war 3 broke out, AQ vs the WORLD!
I completely see things from AQ's point of view, it must be as frustrating to see your hard coding work stolen as it is as an artist seeing your track available for 'free' download. (Again I found this by googling myself to find out where it was in various charts)
Xhip has taken forever and i for one, lost interest a long time ago. But like he says he's only doing this for himself and choosing to share it with us. This is where you and he differ. Yours is a commercial venture and therefore you have to be professional in every aspect, from sound to appearance to deadlines and providing a prompt service. Xhip is just seeing how it goes and working on the project when he feels like it.
But I really feel that enough is enough now, you have a classy product and need to reflect that in the way you conduct yourself here. I know it sounds stupid but it reflects on your product and I can see alot of people are turning against you. I understand your frustrations at having that link posted (I didn't actually read back that far but got the jist of what was going on)but to start directly comparing your 'product' to xhip's 'project' in a topic that has developed into an almost official thread charting the progress is maybe a step too far. Get out now while you can and this will die down and all will be good in the world of AQ. If you continue on the one man war I can't see it going well and I always thought you were a respected member of the board.
FWIW I'vew tried both filters and preferred yours

Take this advice from a stranger as you will, just an outsiders point of view and just trying to help so please don't bother attacking me

Hey Acidose,

I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate all of the hard work you are doing for us. Thank you! You are so kind and wonderful, and I think you need to be told.

P.S. I'm working with the energyXT2 software package on Linux, and I remember you saying that you will release your software as a Linux-native VST as well. When you get to a semi-stable release (the one that you will have before you start working on the to-do list again), could you add a linux release to your web page as well? Thanks!

Hey, everyone, let's all try to get this thread back on track. No one, myself included, is doing Acidose any good by hijacking this thread. I'll create a new thread that we can use to discuss this Poly-ana built-in virus thing. I still think this is an interesting discussion (not that it will affect any changes), but I feel guilty for hijacking this nice thread in which Acidose informs us about his software.

Edit:

I now have the thread set up. It is at the following page:

http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 88#2612188

Let's all move this discussion to that page, so that this thread can get back to normal. Thanks!

The topic of this thread is Xhip made by Acidose. :-)

Ohhhkay, I'm going to put a TEMPORARY lock on this thread. It will last just long enough for me to go through the 160 or so posts made since the Image began, weeding out the off-topic posts that are polluting what ought to be a discussion of aciddose's excellent synth. Soon as I've split those posts off into another thread I'll unlock this one.

Once this thread's been cleaned up, PLEASE keep the sturm und drang about Poly-Ana to the new thread that has already been started. aciddose doesn't deserve the hijack.
