Best sampler format

Hi guys
What is the most universal sampler patch format in your opinion ? The one that almost anyone will read now and after 5 years ?
Is it SF2 ?
And if it's SF2 - what is the most reliable tool to create them. I know that almost every sampler can create and read them but I don't believe that they are all strictly follows SF2 specs.
For example: Highlife. It has many types of filters but SF2 format doesn't support them so how the patch that uses highpass filter can be exported to SF2. Even the filter sound itself can vary from sampler to sampler so how can I be sure that patch made in Vienna will sound the same in Halion or something.
In few words, my problem is that I'm looking for as much universal sampler format as possible and for a good tool to create patches in this format.
So, what is the weapon of choice for professional sampler patch programmers ?

Soundfont used to be the de-facto standard, but lately Kontakt non-monolithic seems to be the most universal. And with the .wav files available to the user, they can be mapped for other samplers, either by translator software or by hand.PHassan wrote:So, what is the weapon of choice for professional sampler patch programmers ?
My recent purchases of downloadable samples have mostly been multi-format, either Kontakt/Halion or Kontakt/Halion/EXS24. I don't buy sf2-format samples any more, unless this is truly the only format they support.
My preferred formats are sfz for RAM-based (so I can use it in DimPro) and Kontakt for streaming/large samples.

I see more Giga files around than Kontakt, but since both Kontakt and Gigastudio are expensive products, it depends which crowd you're going for. If you're going for the freebies crowd (like me) I'd go sfz or SF2.
For the pay crowd go Giga or Kontakt (you can easily convert between the two using one of the three translators out there - Chicken Sys's one, Translator Free and Extreme Sample Convertor)...
Cheers,
Matt
p.s There is a free editor for sfz called sfzed. You can google it.

+1 for Giga. Pretty much any decent sampler can import that one.
Personally I'd prefer Kontakt but considering that none (?) of the other samplers imports that format, I'd say go with .gig .

Go for the High Density disks, they cost a bit more, but they hold a lot more data than the double-density ones.PHassan wrote:Hi guys
