I've recorded a wav file with my portable HD recorder (Iriver H120). As it run out of battery while recording I assume it diddn't write the file header correctly. I can see the file on the HD but I cannot open it in any program. (have tried Wavelab and Winamp). Any chance of fixing it?

Oof. If you know your RIFF chunks and don't mind using a hex editor, you might could repair it. I've done something similar but it was twelve, thirteen years ago. Wasn't a pleasant chore. But the resulting .wav worked (got bound into my product as a resource, and the sounds in it still get played in operatories all over the place).

Details of the .WAV format: http://www.borg.com/~jglatt/tech/wave.htm

You could try to open it in e.g. CoolEditPro (or Adobe Audition, or any other capable audio editor) as RAW wave format. You only have to know (or experiment with) the byte alignment. The header info will get misinterpreted, but further on there will be your precious recording.

That would be a lot easier. SF wouldn't do it for me back then but each case is different.

Opening the wav in RAW format worked like a charm. Thanks.
