Wave sequencing LFOs

Had an idea while using the Aethereal synth that I'd like to bring up.
Normally wave sequencing is performed on an oscillator's waveform but maybe the concept might be useful for LFO waveforms also. This way the LFO waveforms could be much more complex or evolving.
Any thoughts on this ?

Only an idea but it might have some merit.

btw: I really like using the Aethereal synth for ambient textures. Such a modulation monster. :)

I dont know that much about wave sequencing, is it a continuous sequence of altering waveforms in steps, or do they flow smoothly together, evolving from one waveform into another?

If I remember right the Crystal vsti had this function, but I never used it much.

I thought the Aethereal synth used wave sequencing. Or does it use vector synthesis, where the various oscilators are level mixed together ? The start and end functions are what make think of wave sequencing.

Normally LFOs use simple static wave shapes that repeat over and over. Using Aethereal and its complex oscillator mixes, made me think that if something like this was done for a LFO. It could be a very complex and evolving modulator. A complex LFO like this might make for some very useful modulations. With the ambient atmospheres that I tend to work with, a complex LFO like this would come in handy for evolving textures.
Maybe the modulation methods that Athereal uses and what I'm suggesting are only different routes to similar results.

One thing that I appeciate about the PsyMod approach to synth design are their ease of use for some really complex and powerful functions. These are my synths of choice. :)

I see what you mean now, but I think adding somthing like this to Aethereal at this point would just be too much...however this might be somthing that could lead to a new instrument or fx even. A new way to experiment with lfos anyway.

I have a couple of modules designed with wave sequencing in mind on my website - http://www.collusioninc.org.uk/index.ph ... heditstuff

Included is an .se1 file and the source code is available on the same page if you want to examine how I did this.

Actually I wasn't thinking of an addition to Aethereal. It is already quite amazing and complex . Just that working with it made me think that if an LFO could be constructed in a similar manner to how the oscS are blended in Aethereal that the LFO output would be quite useful for evoling pads. The method would likley be scaled down for LFOs.
Of course another synth that focused on complex LFOs would be a nice addition to the Neuro Synth Pack. Sample and hold options would also be much appreciated.

I think of wave sequencing as combining waveform in time (sequencing) and vector synthesis as combining waveforms using levels. These deffinitions might not be exact.

Anyway, I'm on the outlook for new ways to add evolving modulations and randomness to soft synths. These techniques work well for ambient sound scapes.

Cheers...

I'll check these out, thanks!

This would be a good basis for a new synth.
Perhaps another one geared towards ambiance but using synthesis rather than sample based oscillators. This would make a good counterpart to Aethereal if I end up doing it...we'll see what happens.
