Seems that algorythmic MIDI plugins that could be used to play soft synths would be quite useful. I use a program called Windchimes that simulates the way actual windchimes generate sound and find it very helpful in many situations. There aren't many of these type of MIDI generators available anymore. Besides Windchimes I only know of an application called Sounder.

Algorythmic is sort of random but within user defined bounds. Actually that is only the way I think of algorythmic. At one time MIDI was much more used than it is today. There were several programs that exploited the experimental composition uses of MIDI. Many of those applications were written for earlier computer systems and are no longer available.

Anyway, I wonder if there is any interest in MIDI generators to play synths in a user definable algorythmic way. Music can still be worked with experimentally. It would be nice to have more software tools that encouraged this.

Cheers,

Sure, I'd be interested. Such generators could even be used as a learning tool to let people know how to write midi lines for various instruments - I would definately benefit from this as I'm a piano player, so it's hard for me to play like violinist!

Btw, there is another algorithmic synth XWOF-3:

Also, a search on KVR produces this list, not sure if all are algorithmic tho:-

I've actually been meaning to create a midi tool like this based on an idea by Les Productions Zvon, but I just havent gotten around to it. This is an area I would like to explore eventually.

Kool :) When you get round to it, I'd like to beta test!
