Preferably long, too.

Up until now, I basically sampled orchestral stuff I've found and cut out the sustained parts ... while this gave for some great samples, they were typically pretty short, and I need a few longer ones :D

is this site any good?

Edit: Although there are some wavs, most are mp3's @ 96kbps (some @ 64kbps)...no idea why they are of such crappy quality. :|

You might want to check out the Creative Essentials series from Zero-G, specifically volume 30: Orchestral Flavours. It has sustained notes, hits and phrases played by sections or the whole orchestra at once. The sample format is CD-Audio, wav and aiff.

www.timespace.com has it for £9.95

if u want something nice to work with, and u have 200 dollars to spend, IK Multimedia Miroslav Philharmonic CE is NICE AS HELL man....has every instrument youd typically hear in an orchestra, plus a few extra...WELL worth the money in my opinion...

I'd be more inclined to go with a pre-recorded orchestra sample. I spent ages arranging instruments in EWQLSO in several instances of Kontakt to create a sustained orchestra + orchestra "hit" and it was an absolute PITA.

What you need is Beethoven's 9th Symphony time-stretched to 24 hours :

Try the 10 minute excerpt at top right - it loads quickly, so jump to the last few minutes. (it's a good background listen though)

There's also a constant webast here :
