I realize I'm coming late to the party but now it just looks garish, I hardly know what I'm looking at. 3D buttons and knobs flying everywhere.

The old browser that was made by ModuLR didn't really match Tracktion very well, IMO. It was basically a program that would wrap Tracktion inside of it and display a browser that one could use. Very nice at the time, but the current browser is better, IMO. Plus, you can change it or hide it to your liking.bullshark wrote:Just checked the new T3 look, it has those icon to show/hide different part of the UI while Reaper also has icon to show/hide different part of the UI except the icon are shaped like tabs while T3 are not; so, functionality wise, what's the difference exactly?
And frankly, I think the new T3 browser looks like s***, there was a guy who made a browser for Tracktion (can't remember who it was) which integrated seamlessly into the app, looked much better than this new contraption so I'm surprised they didn't copy that instead.
But to the other points you made, it's not about being able to hide or unhide things. But in Tracktion, you can have literally EVERYTHING visible at one time, without covering up any part of the edit window, or any other part of the UI. In Reaper, in the tabbed section, you only have one tab at a time active. Plus, to get all the windows open, including each track's FX chain, the mixer, the browser, etc., you have to have them all floating around. And this doesn't work for me.
Covering up part of the edit area is always worse for workflow than not covering it up. If something covers it up, then you have to either scroll more to see what you need to edit, and/or move windows around to see it. What I mean by having to scroll is that if I have a floating window covering the bottom half of the edit area(THE most important area by far in a host, IMO), then I'm only viewing the top half, even though more of it is visible technically. I just like having everything that is currently on screen to actually be visible to me.
It's all just my opinion, of course. I'm very used to what Tracktion does, and I prefer it ten times over to apps with lots of windows, even Sonar(which I do own btw, and love).
Being able to hide parts of the interface is great, and sure you can do it with both Reaper and Tracktion. But it's when you start NOT hiding things that make Tracktion preferred by me.
I really don't want this to be a Tracktion vs. Reaper thing, because it's not meant to be. I only use Tracktion as an example of what I like and don't like about the Reaper UI because Tracktion DOES work how I like. It's not a dig on Reaper in any way, just my preference. Also, the other stuff I mentioned earlier plays a part as well.
I do look forward to seeing different themes for Reaper. That last one was the best so far for me. And I'm sure, given time, the other stuff will improve as well.
On a positive note, when Reaper improved it's routing window to streamline it, among a few other little things, I was very happy. The old routing windows were just clunky and "too much". So there have been definite improvements that even I enjoy with Reaper. But it has some ways to go for me. I may NEVER buy Reaper, who knows. But I'll always consider it. But for right now, only take my opinions as just that, opinions. Because my needs are met elsewhere and what I want in this particular case is USELESS to other users.
Ok, sorry for the long post. I've been away from KVR most of this week(only a few posts!) and finally got some rest today. So I just HAD to make at least one long post tonight!
Cheers!
Brent

I don't have anything covered up in Reaper, and I don't use the docker at all. If you set up the default project with screensets properly with the keypad, you can just hit ctrl-1, ctrl-2 etc, and have the mixer showing, the browser, the fx window, whatever you want or nothing at all...it's FAST. The in/out window, routing matrix, fx window are all one keystroke togglable as well...there's no scrolling required.koolkeys wrote: But to the other points you made, it's not about being able to hide or unhide things. Even the docker is togglable..I've played with tracktion, and I reckon I get much more screenspace left to right in Reaper...ymmv.
The new themes are just a glimpse of what's to come I think...I still use my own comfortable theme, I try other's but still come back to it...I have to think too hard with the new ones.

Oh for the love of god. Congratulations if you get a small handful of pixels left-to-right more than Tracktion (which does not allow you to hide the names of tracks, though I'm not sure why you would ever want to). That's just pedantry. It's fine to be a fan, but let's come back to planet earth now, where full-screen is full-screen, regardless.Bevoss wrote:I don't have anything covered up in Reaper, and I don't use the docker at all. Actually that pic is almost exactly like Reaper in left to right width, so lets call it a draw. I'm just stamping out misinformation mate...some Noob might think because it's in print, it's a fact.
Brent has as much an idea of Reaper as I do of Tracktion, as it turns out.....

Yes much as I like Reaper in some respects (e.g. I find the audio less glitchy than Tracktion - esp with my NI apps - though I have not really given the T3 demo much of a road test as yet) I have to agree the point about Tracktions great ergonomic interface is it's design "intelligence". That is it adapts itself to what you are doing and presents the tools you need contextually. I find that invaluable and it makes it both easy to learn and a joy to work with. I don't like windows you have to physically park out of the way - with Tracktion you see what you need when you need it.

This thread contains a lot of great information about Tracktion, Reaper and other hosts, just look at the one from amused above. Now if you'd like to talk about Podium too I'd be even more happy
, as I now search for an addition for EXT1.4 (= for a nice change I want to get another host and run EXT inside it).
I didn't find Reaper "ugly", by the way. And now I use Alex Zonder's "blues" skin for testing and rather like it. Views as a part of "speeding up your workflow" are important, and so I'll have to decide now between T3 (I own T2 and like it), Podium or Reaper.
Koolkeys already gave me GREAT hints about that (thanks, mate!), and everybody with spare time feel free to tell me about the strenghts and weaknesses of hosts in a pm
. Yes, I know people have to decide for themselves, but even those asking questions seem to know about that... It's just that all 3 (and I didn't mention Audiomulch, Usine up to now) seem to be very very good.
Errm, back to topic then....

Not at all. But we already had this part of the conversation back on page 8 or something when I explained that the left-right width was exactly equal between the two apps. I haven't a clue why it was stated as otherwise again.bullshark wrote:Somebody peed in your Cornflakes this morning LM?
