Dear Markleford,

I don't know you and probably will never have the pleasure of
meeting you in person. But one thing I do know, you have
impeccable taste in music. Until now, I have only
entered the KVR Song Contest three times and TWICE you
have placed me in your top 10! So besides having an excellent
ear for great music, you are probably also a gentleman and a
scholar.

That being said, here is my humble tribute to you and your wonderful
catalog of KVR music for the last five years.

What's New Markleford

Featuring me actually singing (the horror.....)
Everybody sing along now!

Lyrics:

What's new Markleford? (whoa...)

Markleford, Markleford - you're so witty
Your wife's probably pretty and so are you
Now you can go on and make your sweet Markleford tunes

CHORUS
Markleford, Markleford we love you, yes we do
You and your Markleford hits/licks

Markleford, Markleford - you've been writing
KVR tunes for five long years
Why don't you go on and make some more Markleford gems

Chorus

Markleford, Markleford - wish your Mother
Had named you other than Markleford
Don't let that stop you from being successful in life

Chorus

You and your Markleford hits
You and your Markleford licks
You and your Markleford.....prose

Again, congrats on five years of making music on KVR.
I had a wicked blast making this one!

Having only entered once before I dont know anything about Markleford. However on checking the hall of fame I noticed that he has yet to win the competition so I based my song on that fact.

Apologies in advance for the vocals!!!

Markleford's cello trio is a statement of elegance and dignity, and didn't need any embellishment, but I couldn't resist throwing some extra stuff on top to see how it would turn out.

Markleford's First for Cello

For some reason, even though I tried about ten times to create an mp3 version that sounded good, there are still some artifacts that I couldn't get rid of.
The ogg file was fine and the original wave file was pristine, but my host couldn't do the ogg.

Thanks, Markleford, for the original cello wave file. It was great collaborating with you.

Additional Instruments: SampleTank, Texture, and Bella
Effects: Classic Compressor, Classic Master, Gband, Ghi, mda Leslie, mda Stereo

A cover:
 Markleford's bleak night

Was fun to do !! Thanks Markleford for the midi file and the lyrics. :)
I even put some notes that don't belong to perfect major or minor chords in homage to markleford.... :-o (the string at the end)

The original one

Oh bleak, bleak night...

The family gathers 'round again
And yet I'm so alone
My lot in life, I've finally found:
Just reap the seeds they've sown.

Repeat the lines they'd like to hear:
"Yes, mom, I'm doing fine."
Can't play this role another year
This is the final time

Oh bleak, bleak night...

Buy your love, deny your greed,
And sing your songs of hope.
Give me what I really need:
A place to swing, a length of rope

lyrics

if the algorithm fail
and the math jazz don't pay
i guess i'll use my hands
and play that song the old fashioned way
but that ain't where i'm at
and i don't wear that hat
i guess it's time to make that call
operator get me markleford

once tried to write a love song
but it seem to come out wrong
those folks at kvr
just didn't know where i was coming from
they're all so intellectual
only want some instrumental
guess it's time for one who knows the score
can't you hear them calling for markleford's

algorithmic math jazz
technical virtuosity
with a dash
of pizzazz
he's the one since time begun
a posting on this board
the only one who five years on
still coming back for more

Hi Everybody!
I just had to come back for this one.
Markleford has done so much for the contest over the years.
In return I am dedicating to him a cover of one of his favorites to cover.
Bowie's Five Years from the Ziggy Stardust album.
In true Col.G style of course.

And thank you Markleford for your years of dedication to our monthly contest!

You cant depend on a lot of things
You need a busload of faith to get by.

After having my tonsils out, I'm back to honor Mr. Markleford.

Of course I had to pick the one that was already kinda spooky.
Quick and totally dirty. (First takes with the vocals, and don't normally sing.)

Turned the second verse into kinda a pre-chorus thingy, and took some liberties with the chord progression in general. Needs more 'Spooky'!

Drums: Addictive Drums via DrumKat
Kontakt and EWest Symphonic Silver for the rest.
Oh yeah, me on a cheap guitar playing power chords badly.

Uhhhh.....enjoy.

perhaps some KVRists are worthy of a little more attention than others?
