hey..
im about to get a new mixer with [finally] the ability to properly mic a drum kit.. only problem is, the drum booth is not very close to the control room.. [30' - 35' away]
i was thinking about using a snake to make a permanent wire setup so that i can just plug in the mics and clip them to the drums instead of having to lay out 5 to 7 xlr cables each time i record.
Anyone recommend a specific snake? i hear the cheap ones end up biting you in the ass in the long run.

Sounds like a promo for Snakes on a Plane
Hosa make a variety of snakes - I have an 8 way TRS snake which is probably 3 to 5 metres that is still in good order after 8 years or so.

If you have soldering experience (or want to get some
) I'd go for D.I.Y.

You'll need companders on that snake to cut out any hiss.

I think ProCo sound do the best job - they'll even do a custom snake for you without charging you a huge amount of cash for the custom job.

I just bought an aby box from radial, when it arrived it had a brochure for other products. It seems they make custom snakes. The box I bought is very well made, I think it might be worth a look for custom snakes.

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.
