To get reaction to their new compressor plugin, it was leaked under a false name and fake engrish so you didn't know it was gol and crew. Probably to get a truer reaction from the FL haters and Fanboi's alike
Well if that's true, that's pretty fuckin nice of them. It's free and best of all it sounds f**king great. :D

Will try it on kick today.

Think I will add it to my DAW. :tu:
Yeah it does sound good on a mix.

This plug kinda reminds me of that Sonalksis TBK3, but with an enhancer maximiser instead of that "FIERCE" compression.

The actual compressor/limiter will have more controls, this is just a one knob interface so you can get a flavour. It's an interesting marketing exercise.

Well it's pretty amazing for having just one knob right now. That setting "A" sounds great. Hopefully they don't add too many more knobs.

It's in the last issue of Computer Magazine...
Is it? Damn.
Ok here's the full story:

FL always needed a good limiter, and apparently people weren't happy with the 2 compressor plugins in FL. So I searched for another good one, thought that XXX (I don't know if I can name it, so..) sounded good, we asked them for cooperation, they were interested but didn't have the time for, so I started mine.
In the meantime Argu had made his own limiter too, but a control-less one, and he wasn't interested in adding more features to it.

So I started a single-band limiter (didn't know shit about compressors but got some good help in the music-dsp mailing list). I realized that the release curves were the most important & added more control there.
Then once it was done I started a multiband version, which appeared to give much better results. Added some non-compression but mastering-related features & called it 'Maximus' (as you can see in YWS).
Then I saved 4 Maximus presets & put them in a black box. 'Soundgoodizer' was rejected as a name, 'YOU WA SHOCK' was voted the worst name ever/marketing suicide, hint that it was a good name (& the plugin made the FOTNS title song sound better).
Vlad suggested some engrish, we turned normal text through english->japanese->english for some good engrish. In the meantime Fred adapted it to VST & Winamp plugins.

So the idea was to fake a release by some japanese. This didn't work too well, because instead of some 'hi, I found this plugin that sounds great', this thread started by 'hi, I'm new here, test my plugin that no one ever heard of'. Of course this started a virus paranoia (a legitimate one, since it was a unknown/obscure plugin), except that it made us realize that users were scared of exe installers, but didn't seem to think that a DLL could carry a virus(??). Weird, considering that in the past, a proper installer was a sign of quality.

Then a further idea was to have it released in the CM mag, still 'undercover', but after some weeks I was told that it wouldn't happen, that's why I let the cat out of the bag. But now it's in the CM mag afterall?

Maximus offers 59 parameters btw, a free (Sytrus-like) envelope-based curve for each band, and a complete visual feedback of every compression curve.

that sounds VERY interesting

Basic EQ tip: highpass all that don't hit subs, usually all but bass and kick

About the "virus paranoia":
I've a question for tony reflex..or fred chopper :hihi:
It leaves a YWS_DspIpp.dll (3.080 KB) in my Temp folder... is it ok?
If yes (as I assume), why it doesn't "close the door"?

Thnx

yes, that's because we tried to put everything in a single DLL (better for the winamp version)
