You're welcome to see yourself how bad "shifted grid" bug really is:

Post

You ARE talking about XT1!

Isee the error, but I still don't see the connection as to what a user does that makes this happen.

Post

ok Roman, your video is for 1.4. So I should say that what I've seen in XT2 is very similar. But I haven't seen this happening when I actually try to quantize by clicking quantize. To me it happens when I move notes around, usually multiple notes as soma stated.

So I guess it is an XT1 & XT2 bug

Post

sorry guys. I can see it really is happening in XT1 and believe you that something like it is happening in XT2, but I can't recreate it in either. I'm trying to nail the root cause of the issue. Has anyone figured out what a user does to make this happen?

Post

i'll play with xt2 in a bit and see if i can come up with a possible "chain reaction."

but for now, let me see if i remember correctly what i did last time. i think i may have copied a midi part "ghosted" and then looped the two parts (along with other tracks). it started playing fine but then i noticed notes sounding like they had shifted forward by a tick. when i opened the midi editor the notes were lined up where they should and it started sounding correct again. i close the midi editor, looped the parts again and after a bit it happened again. this time i opened the midi editor and the notes did look shifted. i tried to move them all to their correct tick and the notes would not fall inside the cells as expected no matter what quantize value i would set it to. the notes would fall between cells, in other words they would fall in the vertical line that divides the cells.

the second time i saw this i didn't do the above steps. i opened a midi editor and wanted to shift some notes around to try something, and the same thing happened.

honestly i havent used XT2 ever since out of frustration, but i'll start being a responsible fan boy and see if i can track this down too, lol

Well, problem is, I really can't recreate this bug (I mean, why and when it happens). I all can do now is to send Jorgen (if he is interested in investigating a problem) a project file. Anytime I'm loading this project a bug with moving cells/grids is present in midi editor.

here's something that may or may not be related...

the popup editor always displays the grid relative to the beginning of the part, rather than the beginning of the song. so if you move a part so that it doesn't start on a snap division that you're using in the popup editor, the notes will appear to snap to the wrong place.

for example, make a part start between two 8th notes, and then try absolute snapping to 8th notes in the popup editor.

however, if you quantize in the popup editor, it will use the popup editor's (incorrect) grid.

this is not the way 1.4 works, so that must be something else...

And now for something completely different: What is this color theme in the video? :-)

here's what i'm talking about:

Image

in the popup editor, the grid is displayed incorrectly (relative to beginning of the part). snapping uses the correct position, but quantize uses the incorrect grid position.

edit: i thought the timeline was okay, but it's actually wrong too, if you move a part after you've opened its popup editor.

Actually it's an atractive skin (XT2 mod) available here:

I noticed that too.
That would be an issue.

JL10- the popup editor always displays the grid relative to the beginning of the part, rather than the beginning of the song. Snapping uses the correct position, but quantize uses the incorrect grid position.[the inline editor grid is relative to the song]

great bug hunting! :-D

That's probably the main issue here.

Yeah Insertpizhere has been on the money lately! :D

thanks guys.

like i said, 1.4 doesn't do this, so i have no idea what the problem is there.

and the issue jens mentioned is indeed very annoying. parts don't snap to their original position. notes do, but parts don't.
