About dropping on USB connector, that has been done dozens of times. The last damage was a combination of connector breaking and 4 pins inside of the female USB host connector getting bent/loose.
Regarding fixing it, I can replace it in a blink of an eye (I work in optical telecom, circuit design). This is just a great excuse to get a new toy, since I'm done modding my car
