Hello All

I have no idea how I got started on this one? (I think it was a post on the Reaper forum) ?? Anyhow its done :-)
What is it? A drum plugin that IMHO offers the lions share of what a (dare I say the word) Pro drum plugin\machine has to offer.

SoFtDrum is a VST plugin designed to use Soundfonts as its sample source. Offering the ability to have as many velocity split samples as required within the MIDI velocity range of 0-127, multi sample drums can be packaged into a single file making loading of multi sample drums and maintaining a drum library very simple. Plus the fact that creating and editing a soundfont for drums is very easy using even freeware it takes just minutes to make a drum soundfont from .wav files. SoFtDrum's CPU use is quite low for a plugin made in a modular application (Thanks Jeff+).

For each of the twelve pads SoFtDrum also offers the ability to coarse tune over two octaves up and down plus has fine tuning, MIDI amp velocity control, attack and release controls, panning, volume, assignable trigger note, multi outs (select from six) and offers two assignable groups designed to emulate the hihat and other percussion instruments.

To reduce the file size asseca has packaged the files as a self extracting .exe, The installer contains a self-extracting 7-Zip file. http://www.7-zip.org
You may manually extract the files (except "setup.exe") by using the 7-Zip or WinRAR utility. If there is a problem for any I will work out way to also provide a .zip file.

IMHO the only thing missing from this VST plugin is a large library of quality soundfont drums. That is where you all come in, you create the library and I will proved plugins with filters, velocity filters, distortions, effects, step sequencers, smaller versions, larger versions and the one I want most from this :-) A version with the update to Drum Direction built in so I can load one plugin as an effect and plug my electronic drum pads direct to my soundcard and play :-)
If any of the soundfont sites out there would like to create and maintain a soundfont drum library that would be real cool, contact me if you would like to link to or host the VST files.
Create a large enough soundfont drum library and I will give you all the project files to build what ever you want from Softdrum :-)

Three versions are included in the SoFtDrum.exe package SoFtDrumUlt, SoFtDrumLt and SoFtDrum. The only difference between them is the way that polyphony works. Polyphony works a bit different in SoFtDrum compared to most drum plugins in that each pads polyphony works independent, meaning that the only way a pad can be cutoff because of reached polyphony is from itself. On the up side that means no crash cymbal will ever be cutoff by a tom roll :-) On the downside it means that the full sixteen voice version of SoFtDrum can ask your CPU to play 192 voices at full polyphony :-(

The three versions work as follows:
SoFtDrumUlt - 1 voice polyphony per pad = 12 voice polyphony total
SoFtDrumLt - 6 voice polyphony per pad = 72 voice polyphony total
SoFtDrum - 16 voice polyphony per pad = 192 voice polyphony total

Sorry for the long post I'm rather happy with this one :-)

Peace

When my new Trigger Finger arrives I will make something for you.
This sounds amazing.
Also, I must say your site's new look is DOPE

I wish it could Load .wav Files rather than just Soundfont, who actually has individual Drum hits in soundfont format? DrumKits yes but individual hits? Other than that very Nice indeed. 8)

Yeah, it would be great to load wave samples :)
Great job!!! :)

As mentioned in my first post! that is where I was hoping you (the world) could help out :-) I'm sure there are many out there who believe that you all are not smart enough to create such a drum library? Me on the other hand :-) I believe there is more then enough knowlage, talent and equipment out there among you to do just that (create a drum library) :-)

IMHO using soundfonts instead of .wav can be a large atvantage? CPU being the first reason as a .wav player in SE is quite a CPU hog at large amounts of poly. Plus the simplicity of loading a multi sample velocity split drum! once the SF is created loading only takes one file and all mapped velocity splits are saved within the SF. Plus as mentioned maintaiining a drum library would be easy and creating the SF is very simple.

SoFtDrum is a very simple version of what can be done :-) adding new features to it from here will be very easy. Have a 24 and 36 pad version started resting CPU is no more then the 12 pad version :-)

Thanks dimitar and runagate :-) hope you can find it usefull.

Peace

What little time I've had for music this weekend has been spent exploring the intricasies of this most generous gift to VSTland, Freeted. *applause*

looking forward to checkin this out, and thanks for your generosity.

oops wanted to add i think the other cats might have been intrested in using your app as a drumsampler in addition to a sf drumlibrary player, thats why they'd ask about wavs, anyway like i said thank you, you guys make it like christmas everyday around here.

Thanks for this, FrettedSynth.

When you wrote the following I wondered to myself if zvon was gonna see this. The stuff he has done for HighLife, the various and wonderful sets he offers on his website, seems like a natural.

Thanks for the new plugin, looks great too

I like it. Even though the making of SF2 files takes more time than simple loading of wavs, it offers the possibilities to use more velocity layers. At wavs this possibility is not. SoFtDrum is really for more professional playing.
Thanks Joe for it :)

Thanks all

Yes I understand loading of .wav's would be a bit more easy, but then it would lose the velocity splits (for me it would render it useless) the two most important things in a drum plug for me anyhow are velocity splits and grouping, anything more is just extra and I would very seldom use it (filters and such).

Plus the CPU issue! right now the LT version can chew up to 72 voices poly (kind of silly to call it a light version huh?) but amazingly when I loaded a cymbal to all twelve pads, crank the release up all the way and assigned all twelve pads to the same trigger note and hammer away, full poly (72 voices) is reached real quick :-) 68% on my old athlon 2400+
Now you might say 68% damn that is high :-) but think about it for a minute! that is a 72 voice synthedit synth we are talking about :-) Kind of sounds funny :-) yeh! its a 72 voice synthedit synth thats all.
I have done some velocity split .wav plugs (complete drums) CPU is huge :-(

Hope someone can find it usefull and will help to make some drums?

Peace

Vera, I did not forget you will contact you soon.

i think the concept is very cool and as always artvera did an amazing gui

i can provide a some drum sf's in a few days, this has alot of potential i want to see it finished like you described in the first post. using sf's you can get excellent quality. i really like this plug-in
