Hey guys, im thinking about picking up a the novation remote 25 le which comes with the free bass station vst. Im just wondering if its worth it? If not im gonna go for the maudio axiom25. The bass i usually go for is somewhat deep but still above sub frequencies. something thats really transparent in the mix but gives a lot of punch and wholeness. would the bass station fufill those needs?

Why such a small controller? 25 keys is pretty d@mn small, seems too limited. Atleast a 49 I say. I got me an M-Audio Axiom 49, really nice controller. As far as that Bass Station VSTi goes, I like it. I never tried the Hardware version though.

They both sound very similar but I can tell the difference between the hardware and software. But the difference is only noticable if you're really trying to hear it on purpose (IMO).

gently off topic, but the hardware (rack version) has cv/gate outs configurable to v/oct or v/hz, so that's something cheer it for providing you have old stuff you'd like to sync up. currently used bass stations can be picked up for less than a midi to cv converter such as those by kenton.

as i said a little OT, but something running through my mind of late.

thanks for the input. im getting a 25 key because i already have 2 61 key synths and need something to use with my macbook :)

The difference is easily and very noticeable. Plainly, their software sounds like crap compared to their hardware.

I have the VST, it is awesome, but somehow I just can't seem to produce a normal hip hop smooth bass. Any help?

I own both and did comparison a few years ago here in Kvr Forums with audio examples... My conclusion was that the hardware sounds better and very noticeably in high resonance settings. The software sounds pretty good though and with some patches the differences can be somewhat subtle but there's certain oomph always missing.

the software sounds close enough to the original unless you add a lot of resonance and use the random waveform. it can't compare to the hardware in that aspect. i have the rack version of it, and even after i bought the vst, i still turn to the rack mount more.

one good thing that the software does have going for it is the low cpu pull.

if you are just using it for low bass sounds, it'll get the job done.

I suspect you are thinking of V-Station vs. K-Station. In that case, yes, near identical considering they are both digital VAs to begin with. The hardware Bass Station, on the other hand, was a genuine analog synthesizer and as an ex-owner, the VSTi version only hints at the originals character. Regardless, it is still a fun and usable bass oriented virtual instrument, though its extremely limited feature set may be off putting to most folks these days.

it's all in the frequency control. back that sucker off for the lows.
