Edirol UA-5 soundcard - keep getting pops and clicks

A couple weeks ago, I recorded some tracks on my Edirol UA-5 from my Roland keyboard. Almost every time there was a pop or click in the track. Defragmenting my hard drive didn't help. I've never had this much trouble getting a clean recording with the card. (Softsynths work just fine, btw.) I noticed that the available space on my hard drive is around 55%. Could this be the problem? Would getting a Firewire or USB2 soundcard eliminate the pops and clicks?

Hi,
that sounds as if you had a CPU Load Problem. Are the pops always at the same times or does it just pop generally? Maybe the overall session you recorded the keys in just took to much ov the Cpu-Load.

The pops happen at all different times. I was recording directly from my keyboard (i.e. no softsynths).

make sure it's plugged into a a ROOT USB HUB, usually the back of the machine, not the front or side. also disable power management to all your usb hubs
To disable power management on the USB hub, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. Type devmgmt.msc in the Open box, and then click OK.
3. Expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and then follow these steps for each USB Root Hub that is listed: a. Right-click the USB Root Hub, and then click Properties.
b. Click the Power Management tab.
c. Click to clear the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box, and then click OK.
