I've bought a Korg EMX from Canada and want to know if it will work with an Australian power supply.

The Korg's specs says it runs on AC-9V and has an AC/AC power supply adapter, and requires 23W to run.

But since American power (Canada has the same setup, right?) is 110-120V at 60Hz; and Austalian power is 220-240V at 60Hz; will I just need a universal adapter or a (more expensive) step-down tranformer instead?

Please help me, I don't want to blow it up

Weird..this keeps popping up right now and i just broke my plug so i'm having to order one..You need a converter to convert from the the country of origin to the country you want to use it in.I managed to track the distributors for europe from the manufacturers nae on the converter plug.Mine is a two pin plug encased in a standard three pin british plug and that plug makes it useable.I'll check the link to the site for different conversions,see if there is one for us to aus

Just remembered,they're not voltage converters,they just adapt the plug(at least the one i was looking at)..hang on cos there are china to uk and they're different voltages..

No converter for down under and i'm guessing they sell every type so it looks like you need a step down transformer.I'd get a step down transformer with a trip switch anyway to protect the EMX

Thanks for that musikmachine. My EMX will arrive within a week or two and I wanted to have everything sorted out before it arrives so I can spend several sleepless nights playing with it.

I'll think I know where to get a transformer, so thanks again.

best bet would be to order the australian power brick that way you are SURE it works just fine(and you get to have an adapter(the original brick) to travel to north america)
out of curiosity, how much did you pay before shipping, i'm in the market for one as my ESX doesnt have enough instrument tracks ans I end up using the internal drum sounds, so I think i'll just change (i can probably even export the âtterns data with a little thinkering, anyway i sequence my external synths with the 2 tracks adn i use pretty basic drum sounds ( I maybe used 2 loops in my whole time owning that thing)

Would I order the Aussie brick through Korg directly, or can I go through a local music store?

Roughly $500 Australian. Which was $450+ Canadian. Off Ebay of course(

They retail for exactly $1000 Australian, so it was a good friggen deal!

Check out Denkitribe on YouTube, especially the beatmaking in 6 minutes vid. Thats what sealed the deal for me.

Now all I want is a 303 and a PPG...

You could get an RS7000 and use samples of each..

But yeah it was the vids that did it for me,check out rhythm droid as well(who imo bears a striking resemblance to dirty oscillators

)

If it is possible i would also recommend that you download the manual so you can read it until it arrives

That way you learn how everything works and you can start playing with it right away

Korg EMX power issue
