Wow...holy crap this has surpassed my expectations. Granted, I have only just started playing around with ManyBass, but already it is inspiring basslines that I didn't even know I had in me! This thing is so playable and so naturally funky you just want to bang on the keys!! The tone is spot on. Well done!

Heavy-Noise-Core-Type-Metal-ish-music fans: Check out the "Today is The Day" Preset. I made it to emulate the bass sound from "Hermaphrodite" by Today is The Day (think it was on their 'Temple of The Morning Star' album). :)

That's a particularly cool preset! Actually there are a lot of presets there modelled after bassists and tunes--see if you can guess them all. Don't worry, I left more than sufficient hints. ;)

Si, greg is right. There's one in there called Love Buzz...it's a recreation of the bass sound from the nirvana cover of 'Love Buzz.' :D

Peter Hook? Did he make it in?

Post

I remember listening to some songs Peter Hook played in when making presets. I didn't model any explicitly after him, but there are a few presets with that sort of bass tone. (the deep bass soundset, and then add some compressor, etc.) For some of his melody playing, ManyBass has phaser effects that sound a lot like stuff he uses.

Cool! Glad you know how he is. I thought he was more of a chorus guy myself...

Bleh, my mistake--you're right, it's chorus.

The range of good tones from Manybass is pretty impressive. The supplied set of samples sound great all the way down to low B.

It would be interesting to hear some of the other bass libraries through this plugin (eg some of the articulations from Scarbee's or Chris Hein's basses).

You could convert them....ManyBass uses the dashsound format, so it would be a small pain in the ass (you'd have to convert your scarbee sounds to wusiksnd sounds, then use the tool that converts wusiksnd sounds to dashsounds)...but it could be done. :)

Manymapper should be able to do it - it is just a matter of working out the correct set of samples for a single articulation. It would be pretty cool if you could actually share instrument specification files for Manybass (which reference the required samples but don't include them). Currently you need to assemble the monolithic SND files which are too big to be practical for sharing with other Manybass users. There would also be copyright issues if you were sharing the samples rather than just instrument definitions that reference them.

Hi Guys

A bit of wrong info there Frank....
ManyBass soundsets come in WusikSnd format not DashSnd. But ManyBass will also load Dashsnd too.

Anyways ...thanks for all the great comments guys!

I think that's a great idea... I'm working on rebuilding Manymapper, so that sounds like a great improvement.

Although I pre-ordered it, I installed Manybass lately, due to unexpected and unpleasant problems with another lib, which ate a lot of my time and my nerves.
I took the time yesterday, and my first impressions are : Very good !
The sound is convincing, varied, present, pleasant.
The amp/cabinets settings are not infinite (at first sight at least), but well done and balanced.
At early bird price, that was a steal. Full price remains an interesting deal, IMO.
I'll need more time to dive into it, especially to see how to emulate/combine various articulations, but I don't regret this purchase ; install like a breeze, plays right away, no catch, no bad surprise, tons of well-crafted presets, and a sound which for sure will sit well in a mix.
It seemed to me enough, already, for justifying one or two kind words.
I just would have an extra wish : that the amp/cabinet/fx section would be available as an fx plugin for my other sampled basses !
