Are there any good free (or cheap) tools out there for categorizing and previewing my sample library? I have 10 years worth of samples. Some are gems and others are small and waiting for that magic moment.
When I get board I like to rummage. I was thinking, pity I couldn't use this time to classify them all so when I am making music, I'm not dependant on my last couple of trips down memory lane to find what I want.
I'm on a PC.
Sample librarians? (software)

do you want a VST which allows you to browse folders and audition samples with drag and drop features? or a sampler that does the same thing?

No. XT is good for browsing directories and previewing. I want more of a way to categorize my samples and search them that way.

search? well ShortCircuit is a sampler with a great search feature, but of course it's expensive. $150. If you don't own a workhorse sampler then you should buy it. I own Kontakt but I'd still use ShortCircuit because of its features, ease of use, simplicity. Kontakt is too complex to be a drum machine.
Uhhh, but browsing vs searching, what's the difference in your case? I doubt there's a program that catagorizes samples for you.
