there is people making music on a old atari or using nintendo to produce sounds.....or recording them self when they shit......I think that music is a little more than just the equipment, sometimes, using the worse microphone you have, make the sound you are looking for or the sound that stands out from the other records.
I always thought that the difference is made by the lack of something....I remember once a famous jazz pianist on an interview saying his fortune was to have a broken piano when he started, some keys didn't work so he develop a different way of playing....a different workflow.
Use what you have....learn what the software or hardware can give to you, if you really feel (and you really understand why) the equipment is limiting you.....so change it.
I like KVR or all the other forums, they do are usefull....but they are not "the truth" is just a mountain of personal opinions....and the world is nice because is various.

My 4-Track rocorder had so much wow that my sequencer couldn't stay in sync with it. Apparently it was unfixable. Mr Fostex sent me his apologies.

Despite that I sold it to Trevor Horn who used it to make Frankie's "Welcome To The Pleasuredome" and he said "Who needs an SSL" (this is of course completely untrue)?.

yeah, i agree.

i seriously do not hear the difference between host, and i've used everything out there except for Logic. to me, like it was mentioned before, my preference of DAW software comes to feature set and work flow.

or maybe it's the way one approaches a DAW that makes the difference in sound quality; maybe the work flow of one DAW makes you mix a song differently than another(???)

anyway, the argument is serious waste of time.

Still not good enough. In a host, the very least i expect is a carnivorous raven sound, or failing that, i would be prepared to settle for the sound of shoes.

Possibly one of the differences people notice is what the host does to peaks at or over 0 db on the master channel. I've noticed that Cubase (at least SX3) comes by default with some sort of a built in limiter on the master output. I think some older versions of ProTools do too. (can anybody confirm this?)

I think audible difference between 16/24/32/64 bits to average ears is minimal.

I think difference between hosts can be very noticable

Sonar is smooth and nice
Reason is thin and glassy but accurate
Energy XT just is
Fruity is very big bouncy and fruity, anything but flat

Pro Tools! All the way. Most expensive is the best. Can't be different. Most expensive tools do sound most professional. Didn't you know that?

Discussing the audio quality of hosts is silly, you need an external analog summing device anyway

honestly why do people debate the sound quality of a host?
