About to buy a new keyboard - my old beloved Korg Wavestation Ex just died on me :(
After some research I have opted for Axiom-49 or Edirol PCR-500... Any opinions and/or recommendations?
BTW; My other consideration was Korg Kontrol 49...
Thanks in advance :)

Just one more contender and looks like the best of all, but sadly still not available - Akai MPK-49...

I sold my axiom 49 for a song......mainly cause the first one went belly-up, got a replacment.......and wanted OUT!

Never could get mine to work proper......(then again, I am cursed!) :(

What a shame that I have NOT listen to Your advice...
I have bought Axiom 49 only to find out after playing with It for two days, that few keys are not responding to velocity and/or aftertouch and are "sticky" - totally unplayble!!! Will return It on Monday...
Any issues like that with PCR-500..?

I've used the Axiom for almost 6 months now without any problems at all. The Axiom feels extremely good for a $250 keyboard and I would not hesitate to replace mine if something happened to it.

It got a rather nice "review" in sound on sound, but those are "two a days" for like........TWO DAYS! I had a PCR-30 (it's ancient by todays standards) but it went belly-up too.......shit, I basically use these things sparingly!!!!!!!!!!:x

I think that the whole "knobs and sliders" thing is very "infantile" for keyboards and that you need a separate "mixer/controller" and "midi controler"......but thats just me?

My eyes are on the remote LE 49 for something that works without all the fluff, OR going all out on a second-gen CME.......I'm still nervous about spending that much cash though!

Now, I am pulling for you, but it was about 7 to 8 months when mine went belly-up. AND, I used to push them! I certainly hear what you are saying though :)

If it just stops working, does M-Audio replace it with a new one, or are you basicly just screwed in that case?

Get an E-MU Xboard and be done with it, an amazingly good piece of kit!!! I have the Xboard 61, nice solid key action, aftertouch, plus 16 knobs....it all feels very solid! Best £116 quid I ever spent, I also got the Akai MPD24 (again very solid!!) to go with it...this combo is great and feels anything but cheap!!! (£260 altogether!) ...What one can buy for his/her money now days!! ...you lucky people!

Cheers.

with me, it was in this progression......(your milage may vary)

got an rma
had to PAY to have it shipped
they had it for maybe 2 months? maybe less
sent it back FIXED accept they malled it
had to send the old one back
they sent me a new one
I sold it, good riddance!

Now, it seems you have not had this long? No chance taking it to where you bought it?

What did You buy instead and is It (whatever that is) working for You..?

Post

well, that's one reason I sold it....I already had this 3 year old keystation 49. I don't know about the new ones, but this one was made by evolution with a change frontplate (I know cause I've had a it apart) and it works.

The keys don't feel so great, it has no aftertouch, no bells-whistles.......but it works!

Just had this discussion in the tracktion forum, somebody went with the Ederol is is happy
I used to think the internet was going to unite mankind. Now I realize the internet is perhaps mankinds greatest wasteland of bickering, greed, and narrow minds. " And we all shine on, " Imagine that.

If I get the edirol, it will have to be via shipping as guitar center (the ONLY game in town now) doesn't carry them in store.

Then again, they don't carry cme either, and the JUST started carrying some novation (but not the nice-trim remote le)

I just hate the idea of buying something so subjective online :x

Just a quick follow up... After returning Axiom for a refund I have decided to buy Novation ReMOTE SL 37 and what a fantastic purchase that is. Yes, it is almost double the price of Axiom 49, but the quality and features of this little controller are second to none and after obligatory download and system update it works flawlessly with all my apps (Reason 3, Live 6, Cubase Studio 4) and all the soft synths I own - simply brilliant :) ReMote SL's Auto-map feature (truly rocks) and build quality is something that puts these keyboard controllers years ahead of any others. BTW; ReMote SL's are available in 25, 37, 61 and 0 key versions.
P.S. Before my new purchase I have received email from AkaiPro sales stating that MPK-49 is currently tracking for October release :(
