What the heck are you talking about?advaya wrote:wtf shy??? I'm all for heated debate and riled-up discussions, but your attempts to prove (god knows what now) are getting rather banal.

yes, that is a good one.
I think he got second in the 10th anniversary Virus Goldmember contest. What happened to this golden thing anyway, wasn't it supposed to be sold big time on Ebay?
But regarding serious sound-cloning attempts, check this

dunno mate... seems you started off with 'no software synth can compare with the unique sound of a virus' which then moved to 'you cannot even a/b compare, as there is too much subjectivity involved' then when someone posts an example of how close software can get, you respond with 'I was not aware we were attempting to make comparisons' ??? ???
where is this headed?

advaya: Do you enjoy twisting what people say? No, I haven't said any of that. To help you remember exactly what I did say, here:
Then I said:You and I know that the point is not that the Virus is remarkably unique and nothing can sound basically like it. It's that many things can sound like it, but none sound similar with the same character. It's a character that makes a synth, and not just its flexibility.
And after a reply, explained again why that could not be considered an A/B comparison:Regarding A/B comparison - you can't do a proper and reliable A/B comparison unless the two synths use identical parameters with the same values that produce a similar sound. Unless that's the case, and it almost never is, the person creating the two samples is the culprit and can intentionally or unintentionally create either sound in a specific way that would fool a listener.
Then, to you I replied:What you're suggesting is not an A/B comparison, but a general comparison that has nothing to do with ABX methodology, but with subjective ideas of what good/better sound is. For an A/B comparison to be valid, there need to be objective ways to create a sound that is similar on both (or any number of) synths.
Hard to understand?I didn't know those two samples are one a virus preset and one an attempt to recreate it, because it wasn't mentioned. Maybe it was mentioned somewhere earlier but I haven't seen it. As far I know, the suggestion to recreate a virus preset came later.

yes, becuase these 'good/better' comparisons would not (and ultimately, can not) be of any real use in a thread where even the title suggests 'similar'.

yes... I suppose my pragmatic interpretation of what's being suggested/compared in this thread is too bad.
I can only hope to endure.

I'm all for pragmatism. If it sounds good it is good. So I would like to hear the emulation attempts. And even further: I want to hear that Zebra can do the Virus. Completely. And more. And better. And then I will get me one. Yeah!

It's ALL Zebra2 (!) including the "acoustic" drums - Mike Kastrup is a monster emulation-programmer. I reckon we'll be seeing a few more Zebra2 talents appearing on the horizon soon...if and when they realize how powerful this program really is.

who cares, thats like comparing a Moog Modular with A standard Mini Moog.
same company....different sound and there both hardware?
theres reasons why people don't sell certain machines.
